Decided not to go with this company. I asked about the mandatory elog coming up and he couldn't seem to care less. Not gonna set myself up for failure.
Thanks for all the input though. Be safe! -
Are his trucks 99 or older?
-
The hopper freight is in the toilet anyway. Add the regular hopper holdups and BS in and it can be hard to make a living at 25 percent of the gross. I do remember a time that it woulda been a good job however.

If your accountant is worth his salt, he would have told you while driving a company truck 1099 pay is against federal law. As such you are not covered by workers comp, they don't pay their share of social security and medicare. This topic has been beat to death on this forum, I fail to understand why anyone would work under a 1099, you are getting screwed BIG TIME. Since you declined the position you can use this info for future job searches.

25% is typical w2 company driver pay. As a 1099, you'd need 33-35% just to break even.
-
Actually my accountant, my wife, is spot on. There's some loophole with the IRS that you CAN 1099 people as company employees, as long as your business is classified a certain way. She even called the IRS field office to verify.
However, I already said I wasn't taking the job so your input (which wasn't even on topic) was not warranted.
But, it's a free world and I fought for our right to free speech, so you're fine.
Thanks for your opinion, be safe out there
wore out Thanks this. -
What's so hard to understand, if you net 1200-1500 per week with 1099 company, it's better than net 600-750 per week with W2. Now, if you net 1200-1500 with W2 company, than of course it's a different story.
-
That 1200-1500...then take out both halves of the employment taxes (employee & employer) and any benefits the employer would typically offer (i.e. insurance, vacation, etc...) and you're probably right where you would've been bringing home 600-750 on a w2.
-
I assume you never worked on 1099, is that right?
