cobra 29 transmit problem

well has your radio been "peaked and tuned" if so you might have been putting too much power out for him to hear you that close.... or maybe his was, when you turn the dynamike down your turning down the output sorta... and thats why he can talk to you... i had a radio where i had to turn down my tx power to talk to someone 200ft down the road.

 

is your buddies radio peaked? maybe his recieve was way high, and too much power to communicate correctly.... or ... maybe you did have the problem but were jut unaware of it, its not a big deal if you remember to turn down the mic gain.

 

well it my not be you problem, the receive on their radio may be pretty #### good, and with your extra power its too much to handle. you can always fix it by turning down your mic gain (or power if thats an option. ) oh well. not too much to do about it..... except play with the knobs when your talking to someone real close....

if you have a power mic you can probably turn down the power on the mic to somewhere around halfway.... maybe...

 

The problem you are describing is called front end overload. On the more sensitive radios like what you call the big radios I assume your talking about the 10 meter ones. They have a by pass if you will to keep the receiver from getting to much audio into them and causing them to blow circuits. So they go into bypass or shut down mode when they get up close and are over powered once you turn the audio (mike gain) down it clears up and all is good.

 

This is why I like to have a radio with an RF Gain. When in very close conditions, you can turn that down to cut down the amount of receive and hear someone close much better.

 

i think it might be more than that... my buddy has a little $40 kmart radio with no nothing, and i have the same "problem" im sure his radio does not have a feature like that.... but either way, turning the mic down is all thats gonna work...
