30 years ago I worked for a small crappy company briefly.
Up to 400 mile runs, out and back.
You spent hours running around town trying to find a small truck stop stupid enough to take a company check for fuel, or to give the owner a charge account. (He was a crook)

One place we filled up was a small convenience store truck stop, with a few dual diesel pumps. One time I was filling up the drivers side, only, and happened to notice the mercedes car in the next lane, was using the unused satellite pump from my lane, to fill up. When I walked up to him he quickly pulled the nozzle, said 'Oh, sorry, had the wrong pump', got in his car, and drove off. Yeah, right. He knew exactly what he was doing. Made no effort to pay for whatever he pumped, ten gallons at least.

Oh, two months after I left Crete they sent me small check for something. Not sure what it was for, don't care. Those jerks are past history for me, and will stay that way.

I was an independent contractor with Crete for many years. When I left I waited 45 days to get my final payment. Just like it said in the contract.
Crete always paid me what I was owed.

    Make that Companies PLURAL.

There was a time in the late 80's I witnessed first hand, Companies breaking up into several different BRANDED companies all under one parent company. It's hard to explain. But it's a one hell of a bypass certain laws and restrictions.

Kinda like the SNI / WS / L? consolidation now...may end up being. Dock to door? wow. What's your input on this, x1 ?
Sorry to hijack; am on the road. Can't start a new thread....just wondering. If there's a thread or 2 on here about that, haven't found it yet.
    Be safe, guys n gals.
ps: on topic, CCC is known to pay up even if it takes 45 days; haven't heard otherwise and their drivers seem like they have a head on the shoulders that support their steering and shifting arms. Met a few in my years; no complaints. Settlements at separation can take some time, understandably.
