Finally after 2 years of bouncing around from company to company (4 different ones) hearing the lies,b.s and so on. This company is outstanding and I have NO complaints. Very driver friendly atmosphere, and driver/dispatch relations. I'm here to stay for a long while.

It's great you found a great company. Could you give us a little more insight? What do you haul? How much do they start out newbies at? What about home time? Insurance and anything esle you think might be of interest.
    Thanks

and more to the point - how long you've been there. Not many complain about a new job in the first couple months

Ok ok, Been here about a month thus far and they keep my ##* rolling to say the least. Very driver friendly atmosphere who actually listen and care about their drivers. The bad part is they are currently not hiring, (check co website at gatewaydistribution.com). Very low turn over rate. We are more less an ltl co, and take loads that are typically under 14K lbs from Houston Tx to anywhere (East or West) with 4 - 8 stops. They have us bring a back haul back usually through a broker to our yard for the locals to deliver. No waiting around on back haul or stops either. The pay is probably not all that terrific for some of you seasoned vets but for me its great (at my age). I got fired from Metropolitan for having the shop delete my governor (but I held my mud and didn't rat anyone out), although the morons didn't catch it till a year later they fired me non the less. Point being i was making 38.5 cpm there and averaged about 2700 miles per week, Here at Gateway I make 36 cpm and 30 -50 bucks a stop, plus I'm averaging over 3200 miles per week thus far. I'm used to driving a newer 670 Volvo nad now down graded to an 05 International 9400I which I hate with a passion (only complaint) but have to deal with it for now. They offered me a newer Volvo 670 (06) but it's an automatic and I'm a professional truck driver not a fed ex class c box van driver. Didn't mean to rant but jusst wanted to give you all the spill and I encourage anyone interested in applying to do so anyway. I filled out my application although they told me they were not hiring and two weeks later I was offered a position. The main headquarters is in Cincinatti Oh and I don't know about what region you have to live in but its worth a call at least. Good luck to you all and hit me back with some feedback. I'm out the door with a light load to Fontana Cali, (pray the Banning scales are closed when I cross) lol. Oh ya and for the most part their equipment is decent and trucks are governed to 71-75.

Ahh- to have those young legs again. I have been driving a 05 freightshaker with 10 autoshift for a couple of years now. Sure is nice on the old left knee in a traffic jam.:biggrin_2559: Owner also has man 10-spd I drive occasionally. No big deal to jump back in. All the Road Rangers are so much easier than the old 5/3 5/4 setups that I don't really worry about which I'm in. I don't worry about whether a driver can shift as much as I do about his habits-ie: tailgating, weaving in and out, excessive speed, etc. Glad you have found a good Co. More should be this lucky.:biggrin_25525:

    kiddriver,

Was wanting to know about their insurance and do you know the starting rate for newbies? Went on their site and they don't give any info to anything just an ap to download.
Are you still enjoying the company? How much hometime are you getting?
Just interested sounds like they might be worth checking into.
    Thanks

Ok Just got back home last night from a quickie (Houston to Odessa Tx, then to Peoria Az, finalizing in Fontana Ca, Dropped and hooked to a pre loaded trailer headed back to Houston with a stop in Albequerque Nm and Plano Tx, finalized in Houston. Did that run in 6 days but sat for two (weekend and they didn't expect me until Monday). With that said and done I'm home until either Saturday or Monday my choice for another 6-10 days with 2-4 days home. Starting pay is around 36 or 37 cpm and 40 to 50 bux a stop, thats where I am and the take home pay is decent. I Love this place and have absolutely no intention what so ever of leaving, they treat you very well with respect and like a professional driver not like a number. Our trucks run 71 to 80 mph (still) and the benefits are adequate.

Terminal manager got laid off, company sold 1/2 the new trucks, All drivers got a pay cut,Safety manager cussed me out, trucks got turned down to 68, After numeroud break downs in my 04 co issued Columbia with 700K miles i submitted my 2 week notice and was released about four days later. Didn't dac me but let me tell you all this happened in less than a month. I can't believe how this company went down hill in that short time. I am still waiting for my new Volvo to come in and am leaving out tomorrow to fly to Maine to drive a co truck for Bisson until my truck arrives and I'm already approved to lease on to them. Just a quick update.

    milemover Thanks this.

Gateway is a trash, back stabbing company and that fat SOB Willy J will try to screw you if you de
cide to quit without notice .The drivers handbook says if you are within 100 miles of you next stop at the end of the day that they will pay you 50.00 per night layover pay . Well they will do anything to screw their drivers out of it . When i called them on it they said that the driver handbook was worded wrong in the drivers hand book , Well i am not the one who wrote the handbook , Gateway did .i retained a lawyer and we are gonna sue the XXXX. , The only way to get to scumbags like these is thur their bank account . And you can bet they will pay dearly .. Hope it's worth it to you ########..
