I'm still researching which company to go with if I end up doing the big jump from healthcare to driving this fall.
In all reality, I'm going to go to a company school. Working my schedule now, it would be impossible for me to get my CDL before I leave my current job.
What I would really like to know is which company really gives the best overall training, and why? I understand the value of the education, and quite honestly, having been an instructor and such know that I want to be trained by a company that legitimately wants to make you a good, safe, smart driver and not just a steering wheel holder. I want a solid foundation built in the classroom, and have my road training build on that. Is it a pipe dream?
I'll admit- its a bit overwhelming to read all the treads on here, and trying to decipher the good from the bad- if you feel you had good training, please share. I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!!!
Best Training, Period.

You want to become a truck driver after being in healthcare? That is just stupid...
You want to be abused by carriers, shippers/receivers. Harassed by DOT, sleep in tiny bunk at some dirty truck stop?Bean Jr., Florida Playboy, walstib and 1 other person Thank this. -
Not speaking from experience, but merely recalling what I have read more than once on TTR. I think Schnieder gets the nod on their training program. If I am wrong I surely will be corrected in short order...

It all depends on a trainer. I run flatbed and had an excellent trainer. Other trainers for this same exact company suck and are known to use students for miles/extra pay.

To obtain your cdl,
Community colleges, hand down.Texnmidwest, roadmap65 and BigSky Thank this. -
IMO your best training comes when you actually get on the road by yourself. When its 3am and you have to back in between 2 trucks at a warehouse. Blocking traffic and everyone rushing you. That is when you learn.

Apparently you have never worked in healthcare.Texnmidwest and Lepton1 Thank this.

Totally agree there, but still need to get to that point!

Schneider was a good experience but training period was short. I join them after a few years doing local and still learn some new stuff that I still use today

Yeah. Prime I have heard is good. Crete is good as well. I started with Shaffer (Crete's reefer division). They are goid too. My training was bad there but that was cause I got stuck with the one guy who was a horrible trainer.
