I'm near the ports in Norfolk Va. and I don't have a clue on how to get freight out of the ports on my own authority. I prefer not to pull freight out of the ports, but I still want the option. I currently get my OTR freight off of DAT and Truckstop boards.
How to get Container Freight as OO with own authority?

You'll need a twic card and a scat code to get in/out of the ports. I believe you need to register at UIIA to be able to even enter property. (Only exception is if your flatbed bringing in MT, then I don't think you need to register.)
I don't know how the chassis interchanges work on the business side, but I do know certain cans can only be taken it on certain chassis. Take the wrong chassis out and it's a big bill.POINTDEXTER Thanks this. -
Do u mean hauling freight for direct customers or moving brokered loads?

brokered loads

If it's your own authority the rail and steamship lines usually require a bond be posted before you are granted interchange. Union Pacific used to be $10,000 iirc.

UP requires you have 15 trucks per market you want to work, or at least that's what their application sez.

Need info to pull out the ports under my own rights I'm in Norfolk VA port twic card and all tags etc.. what are the insurance I need...

I don't pull containers not sure with your own authority you would even want to mess with that kind of freight but as far as I understand how it works is the ship lines are the ones handling out and paying.I personally think it might be easier to basically broker loads from a trucking company already doing it they generally want operators authority and certification of your insurance I don't think the ship lines are interested in one truck companies but I could be wrong never recall seeing any independent guys doing containers .JimmyWells Thanks this.
