Back in the old days could throw in some absinthe and betel nut and opiates that the bar girls had; for a small fee!
My body can't handle that Irish whiskey; has to be a blended bourbon. I'm off all that stuff now, except betel nut. Chew it every day. -
No, not necessairly. A lot of things in play in this sort of situation.
The US flies aircraft fully loaded with live weapons, at, over and around "points of interest" all the time.
sometimes its precaution and sometimes its bait. -
Understand that these fly overs are really just for show.
Its a we know your here, we see you, and now you know we see you, look at us, here we are, now you see us thing. -
I get that. But still, add one more nugget to the conversation - "we let you fly by unharmed, because we choose to. We could just as easily cut your ride in half with our Phalanx. Have a balloon on us."

The problem is, Russia isn't doing anything the Americans aren't doing.
American politicians make a big deal out of this in order to brainwash the American people into sitting by like sheep while the politicians jack up the defense budget. "We need more money because Russia, China, etc. are a major threat, etc."
Think about this; Western countries crying they must protect "freedom of navigation" in the South China Sea because of China building lighthouses, etc. Well, guess what; China is the last country on earth that wants the South China Sea restricted. Why? Visit your local Walmart and the answer is there. China is the worlds largest exporter and they need freedom of navigation to supply the world with what world wants. Freedom of Navigation in the South China Sea is vital to the economy of China and Walmart shoppers.disoba Thanks this. -

Chinatown Thanks this. -
I'm sure China would be all for freedom of navigation in the South China sea - for a price. Just like Cuba exacts a fee for every American airliner that flies thru their airspace, if China claimed jurisdiction over that waterway, they could then start charging fees for passage. If you don't pay, go around. In the end, it's always about money.
