I have a 2012 KW T660 Cummins. My trouble began when I received an "injector spill valve" fault on the dash. Took truck to KW where they told me after 8 hours of diagnostics that this was a faulty code and they cleared the code. Ok, fine. Then they told me that the clutch fan was out and the thermostat was stuck open which was why my engine fan ran all the time. Ok. So they change clutch fan and thermostat. Now a "faulty code" bill turned to a repair bill of $3250.00 and a week and a half lost revenue.

1st day back on the road, same issues resurface with engine fan running constantly. Call KW they say bring it back - don't think so. Took it to a local reputable truck shop, they thought they had it figured out but - turns out not. So add 850.00 to the KW bill.

Anybody out there know why the engine fan might run constantly? Open to ideas - tired of throwing money at a problem the "pros" can't seem to figure out. Thanks in advance - the help over they years from this forum has been so much better than the repair shops guesswork.

Ac switches have been known to do it.. With the newer trucks the Ecm normally says what trips the fan and if nothing is tripping it . More often than not it's a airline rubbed through

Just did another today (4 in 2015) fan drive circuit in ECM bad. Don't understand why this is happening in the ECM, but it is. Everything else working correctly. Local Cummins verified that they have had many more same issue. I have spare ECM at shop for testing so instead of me going to ECM last in diagnosis, I do it first when it comes to fan issues with ISX.

With full air pressure built up, engine off key on the fan hub should be in release mode, this will show if the hub and solenoid is working correct, if it does release and then goes into full on when engine is running it is getting a signal from a sensor telling the ecm to turn fan on.
Insite program would help to see what is causing it, to bad the dealership had no idea what they were doing.

Can someone answer me this. I don't know a lot about the newer truck systems but if the thermostat was stuck open why would that cause the fan to run all the time. if the stat was open then the truck would run cooler. the fan only should come on when the truck is at higher temps or running the ac.

Plenty of things can cause this from a faulty fan clutch to a bad solenoid, switches, or wiring. By the way, if you get the injector spill valve code, you have an injector that needs to be replaced. Which KW dealer were you at. My local dealer in Carlisle Pa is great. They get you in and out fast and always go a great job.

Start with the easiest first. fan clutch wire, plug and temp sensor.

I had 2 trucks with fan on constantly. Dealer said change pig tail to coolant level sensor. I did fixed problem for 20 minutes. Truck was returned. Chase the wiring to the coolant level harness see if you have any broken wires or shorts. There's also a switch on the firewall it's a vacuum switch.

I had 2 trucks with wires to the coolant level sensor shorted out. Kept fan running all the time
