Hi! I am super thankful this website exists because it has great information on it! I am currently in my first week of CDL school, and I've found this an excellent resource when looking for info on companies to go with after school. I am a 22 year old woman, and I decided I wanted to be a trucker after bouncing around colleges without any purpose. I've only worked fast food/customer service jobs, and I had to get out of that! I chose trucking because I love the idea of working alone and seeing the county, learning mechanical skills, and getting financially independent. I am located in the Twin Cities area and I'm interested in a Midwest regional route. My first week of school was rough, but I am making progress and I know I'll be able to do it if I keep studying and trying my best. If anyone reads this, thanks, and have a nice day :)

Best to you, DeviantAquarian. The learning curve is steepest at the start, and gets to be fun the more you do it. J

Thanks! I was just super frustrated because it took me 3 days to do a straight back, but once I got that, things seemed to take off :)

Good luck to you. Don't get frustrated. When I went to school, the first time I got behind the wheel, we were straight backing. My first time, the instructor told me I might want to go inside and ask about a desk job. That was a little over 4 years ago and I'm still out here.

Oh no that's so mean! I got talked to on my 2nd day about why I hadn't gotten it yet, but it wasn't quite that bad. That's great you were able to push through it :) Anxiety is for sure my main obstacle.

I'll probably get a few guys riled up with this comment, but other than a just a few exceptions, I have found the lady drivers to actually be better at backing than a lot of men. I have my theories on why that is, but who knows?

Well yay :) I am lucky because I only have one other guy in my class, and he's better than me so far because he has some trucking experience, but I am better at going slow and not over steering. My instructors have said that there haven't been a lot of women at their school, but when there are, they never have ego issues and are easier to train.

    pattyj Thanks this.

Good luck in your endeavours; stick to it and just do it! (My wife drives, also. . . just not full-time atm, but she has teamed with me in the past!)

All these hire new cdl grads.
It's best to apply during the first week of school.
    McLane Company
    Don Hummer Trucking
    www.redleafrecruiting.com
Old Dominion-apply for LTL or OTR (P&D is local so won't see the country)
    Magnum Ltd.
    Navajo Express
    Halvor Lines
    TransAm
    May Trucking Company
    Trekker Logistics
    Southern Refrigerated Transport
    Bay & Bay Transportation
    MCT Transportation
    J&R Schugel

I think all the above hire 22 yr. old drivers. I know for sure they hire new cdl grads. Apply to as many as you want, then take the best offer. Do the online applications then follow with a phone call in 24-48 hours. Say you're checking on your job application when you call.
