I have a few companies I need to decide between. A bit about me.I been a driver for about 2 years. I live in NW Indiana. I drove truck on farms, rode with my dad when I was a kid, and love being a otr driver. I have a wife and 2 kids. My youngest, currently in 8th grade want to go to school to be a vet. I owned my own business for 10 years as a mobile DJ but when the economy tanked so did the business so i do t have any retirement started or savings. I spent my first year otr with a company where i was the only driver then after a month the trainer. (I know stupid, but I didn't know any better at the time. Blame it on my old fashioned get it done attitude) The last 11 months I been driving for a local company. (They offer no retirement, vision coverage or vacation pay etc.) Looking to be otr, out two weeks home 2-3days. Must start working toward retirement as I am now 40. My companies I'm looking at are...

Buchanan Trucking out of Fort Wayne,IN
van - various freight % load pay
    avg 60-70k/yr
    medical, dental, vision
    HSA(wife prefers over FSA)
    401k 2% match
    only con is no pets

    Continental Carbonics
    75-90k /yr
    5k sign on
    van- dry ice
    401k 1.25% match
    medical, dental, vision
    HSA
    life insurance up to 600k
    some Canada (I'm ok with)
CON: camera on driver and around truck. Also no cell phone even hands free allowed when behind the wheel on duty. (I'm ok with cameras I guess. Can't even use phone for music app) No rider

    PTL
    50-80k /yr (.38 top at .45)
    performance bonuses
    401k - %?
    Employee Stock Option Prog.
    Van - various
    medical, dental, vision
    1500$ Sign on
(I love they have ESOP and 401k)

    Ruan
    tanker runs
    216$ /day
    home nightly
    on 5 off 2- on 5 off 3
    401k .50 on the dollar to 6%
    medical, dental, vision
CON no rider, no pets, slightly low pay

    Marten
    25% load pay 50-60k/yr
    401k 35% to 6%
    good holiday pay
    good layover and detention pay
    med, dent,vision
    CON; FSA low pay

Anyone got thoughts or information? I'm leaning toward Carbonics and Buchanan.

    This is easy; Continental Carbonics

That's one of the companies new drivers dream about.

That's what I'm thinking too. So many drivers ##### about cameras. easy to be fired

Every Continental driver I've talked to seems very happy.

The camera thing depends on the company and how they use it. Ours only save and transmit events. If I was being monitored, I would have been fired long ago [IMG]

Holland Enterprises Inc. has a good reputation. The cpm isn't that great, but the runs are long and average about 1700 miles each. Trucks set up real nice for driver comfort. Driver no-touch freight.
A&R Logistics is another real good outfit.

No offence, but thise don't sound as good as the one especially I listed. 2500 miles is the avg at the places I'm looking at

I meant for each load, not weekly. Anyway, from those you listed Carbonic looks good. Of course, Ruan would be good for tanker experience. When I switched to tankers I had lots of regrets that I didn't do it years earlier.

Lepton1 and Doc Daniels Thank this.

Did you ever do flatbed? If so how do you compare that with tanker?
