Trucking has always been my dream job, although I do realize it is a very stressful lifestyle. I know it wont be easy, and neither is anything in life. If you want something bad enough you have to work for it. So here I am.. I am coming from a household of caring for everyone but myself. I have a child (now adult) who is autistic and developmentally disabled which was a job daily, hourly and even per minute. I have attained the skills to manage my time wisely, I have learned to plan ahead for the inevitable, and many other stress management activities. My time is up..
I don't have any "verifiable" employment to show on an application. I met with an employment specialist and took their advice and had reference letters written on my behalf and also offered a cover letter and resume with my attributable skills that could transfer into a trucking career. I am not sure where to go from this point because I noticed that the application is very unique to trucking and doesn't allow for a resume or cover letter.
I am trying to find a company that offers CDL school with employment. I currently have obtained my Class A permit in my state along with the Physical required by DOT with the long form. There are a few companies that I am VERY interested and those are: Jim Palmer Trucking, Prime Inc, Knight Transportation. I am not familiar with all of the companies out here.
I am very aware that the first year will down right suck, but I also know that having the right attitude is key. All BS aside, its what you make of it. Push through and your golden!

Good luck with your new career.
Apply to several to save time. This way is any reject your application, you'll have others being looked at.
There's also Celadon and Southern Refrigerated Transport.
Jim Palmer looks real good.Lepton1, Retired2015 and KriegHund Thank this. -
Cover letter? Forget that. Nobody cares. Sign on with someone who will train you and your off and running.

The cover letter and reference letters were suggested by the Unemployment office. Some of the options you listed are unattainable due to my location in Oregon. I applied with Celadon around Christmas time ; as far as I knew, everything was good, we were just waiting on my hard copy of my permit, but never got an email or call from them again. I tried several times.

Trucking companies don't care about ANYTHING like that. They care about driving record, criminal record, health and drugs. Other then that, if you breathing your in. You could write your name on a piece of toilet paper and run your background and hire you.

Try Henderson. I talked to them about my lack of work verification and it didn't seem to concern them.
I did tell them that I had a TWIC card so that may have helped.
It's only 130 bucks and takes a few weeks to receive but it will show InativeKriegHund Thanks this. -
Have you read anything about Henderson school shutting down? That's the rumor. I was going to call but I'm overseas right now. If they're closed, I want to cross them off my list.KriegHund Thanks this.

As far as my driving record goes its as squeaky clean as it can be at 43. I have only had one ticket my entire life back in 1993. I have never had any criminal charges and never even tried drugs and I dont drink and drive ever. Not trying to sound like a nobody but I guess I am.. My focus has always been my daughter and my son. I Live in Oregon and have found that some of the new schools such as XPO (Conway) do not hire in my area.KriegHund Thanks this.

Do they hire out of the western states? I live in Oregon
