Flat requires additional training compared to van.

Thats not entirely true. A lawyer can petition the court and a judge can strike any conviction from record.

Right before I went back into trucking I had a suspended license on my record from child support. After getting it caught back up I paid a lawyer and the judge removed the suspension from my record. It was 2 years old at the time.

As the lawyer explained it to me, it all depends on the judge. The judge looked at my over all record. Being that other then the suspension, my last speeding ticket was 10 yrs prior, and I needed it removed in order to be insurable the judge granted it.

Cost me $1000, but allowed me to get back to work.

    To the OP:

Its not that an O/O woundnt want to hire you.

I recently went through this trying to hire a guy I knew was a good driver from working with him at a previous company. He had a speeding ticket and some safety violations on his CSA. The only way to hire him would be to pay a $6800 annual premium on top of my current insurance rates.

Explained to him, if he wanted to work for me the only way would be to deduct the premium from his pay. Naturally that didnt go over too well.

Insurance companies hold O/O's hostage when it comes to things like this.

Best to just not do anything that will get you a ticket. Its just not worth it when your license is your livelihood.

Exactly the same situation here. $7K for Lucky. $14K for Unlucky. That is the cold hard reality. Drivers should endeavor to think about that as they drive down the road. They are literally that close to being unemployable....or at least a $7,000 pay cut.

I never said I was using a cell phone. It was for messing with my GPS. Regardless of that, it's a hand held device

To update the topic, the answer is yes you can get hired with 3 violations. I now work for an owner operator. I now feel even more responsibility to push my best because he helped me out when he could've turned me down

I wouldn't have landed a job with anyone if 3 tickets were a big deal

a quick update. I did get hired. I was helping a guy from a forum like this who was in truck driving school. Turns out, noone would hire him either (felony). He ended up starting his own mc right out of school and hired me to purchase equipment for 2 flatbeds. I picked out 2 peterbilts with cummins isx, a reitenour and a benson off tmc. Company is now just over a year old and i couldnt be happier as a driver knowing my experience helped build this company.
