LTL is some of the best paying freight out there, or was when I was in it. Do I think youre going to make that kind of money in a Lease Purchase with a truck payment running Over The Road? Doubt it. You might make it now and then if conditions are right and you throw your book out the window.

Those limitations you are talking about aren't directed specifically at owner operators. And they will hurt the earning ability of many company drivers as well. We all need to start actively, but non-violently, resisting this stuff. Company drivers and owner-operators alike need to work together to get the govt out of our business as much as we can.Doc Daniels and Retired2015 Thank this.

You are right but Owner Operators are really gonna feel the pinch because they have truck payments. Large companies have been trying for years to get rid of owner operators because then they can charge what they want to for their freight hauling. If they succeed, its also gonna hurt the consumer.

But those aren't things that effect a guys profit. Sure they add to the aggravation level but if having to run illegal logs and drive 70 mph to is the only way a guy can be profitable, i say good riddance to him leaving the industry. That guy is helping to keep rates low for the rest of us.
I guess it comes down to how you define the phrase "driving independents and small carriers out". I define that as things that would effect my bottom line. Others may define that as things that add to the aggravation level or taking away from the 'fun' factor. For those, i agree they may feel like they are being pushed out. -
A hundred grand a year is very doable. 700 grand...well that's about as realistic as that ocean front property in Arizona for sale.TheFriscoKid and HalpinUout Thank this.

Netting 2200 a week as an oo is very doable. That is just above my benchmark number i aim for (and almost always achieve, approximately 85% of the time) every time i leave the house.

Dont affect profit? Why should you have to run illegal to support your family and dreams? Taking the risk of losing it all? Less Miles= Less Pay. this is not a 9-5 job youre talking about.Last edited: May 14, 2016

I don't run illegal. And i don't support any one that does. We were discussing legislation in terms of it driving oo's out of the industry. I stated my feelings on the if the ruled will effect a guys bottom line. Neither the elog mandate or the upcoming speed limiter ruling will effect guys unless they are currently running fast or breaking hos rules.gokiddogo Thanks this.
