YOUR ABSOLUTELY CRAZY TO BUY NEW......
If it were me i would buy my fav truck well used(pre egr model)...$10-20 thou range...Then rebuild from frame up to you and $$ likeing...You will get a truck that gets better mpg, power, more reliable, weigh less and able to make you more $ in the long run.....An added bonus is that your cb will work better to..

    rabbiporkchop and boneebone Thank this.

Volvo all the way, don't even give it a second thought. Not to mention the Volvo dealers / service departments are light years ahead of Shakerland.
A D13 will last you a long time, with very little hassle, as long as you maintain it.
Call a few, or stop by and see some independent dealers that wrench on trucks, see which engine requires the least amount of work, especially BIG work or EGR.
I loved my Volvo, the ride IS SO, SO much better. It's quieter, and it doesn't come with the factory leaks that the Shakers do.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

The d13 or d16 only ever caused me some very minor electrical light stuff, injectors and tubes 3 times(twice on d13 and 1 on d16) and nox sensors...No squeeks n stuff from volvo cabs but a few in my new cascadia(includeing factory leak)....Mine even came with crooked bumper....FL body shop sez it cant be fixed..Told boss a few times and left it with him..Other week he came out and saw it and got all upset...Said i told you about it the day i picked it up last fall..

Always can look at glider kits. Fitzgerald is one out of Tenn. No experience with them but they are an option.

The Volvo's are built in West Virginia by Americans for American Truckers. I'm going to give you three guesses where the Shakers are built, and the first two don't count.

Not much to offer here except the other day I was at the truck salvage yard complaining to the workers about how everything plastic on my Freightliners is always cracked or falling apart. They laughed and said Volvo was much worse.
I didn't actually believe them, but that is what they swore to.
