Knives don't "snap"......
Knives cut a wider swath each "whoosh" than a bullet.

However, you can't beat a good pistol in the hands of an accurate shooter for "reaching out" to someone you don't love.

I pulled into a rest area the other day in broad daylight. I am always aware of my surrondings. I went in to take a leak. In the lobby was someone that triggered my fight or flight syndrome. I went in the rest room and had my knife in my hand unopened. I waited a few seconds before I started to take a leak. I did not put the knife back in my pocket until I was walking out of the restroom.

 

A trained fighter will hold a knife inverted. You can not remove the weapon from them without getting cut. Even if you grab that arm all they have to do is roll the wrist and the knife will cut the grabber.

You are left handed. Reverse the instructons. Short sleeves: Slip on a thin nylon rain like jacket. Gives you a sleeve and a dark color will hide your pistol in the back of your belt.

Any body remember back when we could not afford a "switchblade". They were legal back then or had not been declared illegal. We would take a good sized pocket knife;single blade was best,open it a little and stick a piece of a wooden match in under to hold the blade up just enough for
the tip to barely stick up. Drop it in your right back pocket.
Idea was to stand rared back in face of danger; with fingers of both hands in splayed you back pockets, truly harmless pose.
Nibble around with your right fingers for the knife; get a couple of fingers around the handle. At show time "rip" it up out of the pocket blade to the right, hanging the "tip" on the outer seam of the pocket thereby jerking the blade open as you cleared the pocket. Handle in hand; blade open, ready to make love, fight or dance.
Do not try this right off. Read the directions and use an old pair of pants held in front of you to actually see how it works and the actual dimensions of knife, match stem, and tip connection.
You read this and do it and you will definitely cut the side out the pocket or whack a chunk out of you !!! cheek.

 

fortunately, most thugs don't know a thing about knife fighting, so taking it away from them is relatively trivial. yah, I got cut a little on one hand. On the other hand, he has a permanent limp from a destroyed knee. I think I won.

While I am strongly in favor of an armed populace, I am equally insistent that anybody who caries ANY weapon know how to use it.

 

Agreed. I am a fan of Ohio's concealed carry law, with proper training. And I believe that once you have your certificate, it should be national.

 

Not 100% true but a lot of people who think they know how to knife fight will do that. The thing is with an inverted blade you telegraph your strikes more and your more limited in both offencive and defencive moves. With a forward blade you have a lot more agility and its easy to use a basic defencive move to sever the bicep tendon or wrist ligament. In ether case they just lost their weapon and the use of an arm. Its pretty much all over but the dieing or running at that point.

 

I think you should be allowed to carry. UNLESS you are a convicted fellon or have 'anger' issues. You should be made to pass a physical, mental and skills test before being allowed to carry. Don't need nut jobs who is going to pull their knife/gun just because they got p!ssed off. There are enough crazy people in this world, we dont need them carrying weapons.

 

I think you're right. The opportunity to defend oneself shouldn't be limited because you're a truck driver. The world is far more dangerous than some people realize.
