"...........Regs prohibit using your phone while driving, so that app is a no-go. Get caught entering or reading info on it while driving and the penalty is pretty steep. CB, on the other hand, is perfectly legal......"

No need to read it. I bluetooth it into my headset and simply listen

Today, headed east on the east side of Donner summit, wet roads, an east bound truck/dry van driver lost control near the 50 MPH curve and ended up jackknifed with tractor up on top of the barrier wall on the outside shoulder ... this could not have happened more then about 60 seconds in front of me. Kudos to the CR England driver who bothered to immediately give us a heads up on the radio ... waze app would have been less then unless in that situation, at that point in time.

The way I usually run things is to use the Garmin dezl 770 for navigation, have Waze running for the alerts, and the CB on with squelch almost all the way up. I miss the days when the CB was popular. (How 'bout it there west-bound Double Diamond? You got yer ears on?)

Doesn't sound safe. I can see it now....accidents happening because someone on waze tried to report an accident. So now you have 2 accidents. Now if everyone else starts wazing, well thats more potential for accidents.

As for CB, it may be outdated per K4KWH but it does serve that one purpose of real time traffic reports. So which is better?

I say use both....but don't try to waze while driving. Unless you want to be the next accident everyone is wazing about.

A few months ago I passed a truck and he alerted me on the cb I had sparks under my trailer. I pulled off and found my spring that holds up my airlines broke.
I rehooked it back up and was on my way.
    Can waze do that?
Or a mud flap dragging or a flat trailer tire?

    CoveringBases and Terry270 Thank this.

It's like a radar detector. It usually can spot the cops. But occasionally, you will have a cop with instant on radar. And in that case, that radar detector won't tell you anything, until it's too late.

BUT....if others are using the CB to warn of a speed trap in advance, and if you have your CB on and you are listening, then you are already on top of the game.

What's wrong with both? Waze is always running. My phone is mounted on dash, shows me if traffic will slow down soon and as far as reports go.. It'll say "police reported ahead" etc, but I usually have those off. I don't "waze" while driving. But if I wanted to, I can wave my hand over the phone twice and say "report blah blah blah" and it'll do it. It gives real time speeds of traffic jams and is actually really useful for knowing where you should be avoiding things.

All that said. I have my CB. Squelch is way up and I should spend more money on getting it tuned, but for now it's there. It's yet to be useful, but I'm hoping one day. All I get out of it usually is some scraps of politics or some challenges for fights when I pass rest areas and truck stops

My Cb collects dust and such. But it looks good with all those shiny knobs.
