There are several chemicals out there that are "environmentally friendly" that will work but it takes a while. As far as liquid asphalt goes, nothing cuts it better than diesel, just sayin...
-
You'll get over trying to keep it clean. There's a reason some of them have the black middle.
-
I wouldn't heat up the knife... Just pick a hot sunny day ....
Diesel is ok but ether won't leave any residue .25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
Where can you get ether? And is necessary to open the dome lid while unloading?
-
I would always crack the dome lid open, never trusted vent pipe but it was always a rented trailer I would be unloading..
-
Always open the lid.

Went to the hardware store today. Got a putty knife both metal and plastic, blow torch, extra propane canister, spray bottle Nd the manager gave me a half gallon of acetone for free. Cleanup time

We use this stuff. Buy it by the 50 gal barrel or similar product. Really cuts the asphalt oil and smells good!
I keep a can in the truck for spot cleaning on truck, trailer or yourself.

Honestly there is no way to keep it nice. I loaded off the rear today and cleaned it out nice with diesel and it still got everywhere. Very difficult to avoid in the rear
