Just saw the tv news on this one.. DPS is saying "it looks like fatigue". Professional1 pulls off on the shoulder for unknown reasons. Professional2 rear-ends professional1; later, professional3 is tooling along and rear-ends the first bunch of chaos.. Oh yeah, there was at least one car caught in the middle. Totally inexcusable but yet so predictable. Amazing no one was killed, God willing professional2 and 3 lose their license but I can't imagine the motoring public would be that lucky..

An awful event. Who knows why Professional1 pulled off, I hope it was a serious reason, but Professionals 2 and 3 were just not paying attention. The car in the middle? Wrong place, wrong time. Good news no deaths occured. This event shows another great reason to avoid pulling off on a shoulder, if at all possible. It's just dangerous.

Also, it shows why it's good Professionalism to move over a lane whether or not a vehicle on the shoulder has lights blinking. Or, slow down, if necessary.

I was in this spot at this time everynight for a couple years..I always see fatigued driving here...
Ive tried to figure out why...I think its the geographics... guys made it all this way, only a little further to go kinda thing...I dont know..no cops, no checkpoints, nice open well marked road, nice sleeping spot every 2 inches, i can see guys pushing thru here..
But then again, you OTR road demons have these "sleeper" spots everywhere I would guess..so I dont know

A tired tanker man hit someone walking on the shoulder couple nights prior...

    scary ugly subject

The guys in Michigan drive much more aggressive tho. Those guys don't mess around. There's always a race to the cali stateline on the i10 from az. Everyone's trying to get through la before traffic.

I went by this crash scene tonight, a day later.. You can see where it happened from all the marks on the road... Looks to me like the guy who stopped on the shoulder was less than 500 feet from the exit.. This I can never understand. I guess it's possible his truck wouldn't make it another 500 feet but highly unlikely. Another driver who doesn't understand the dangers of stopping on the shoulder.

Maybe, fuzzey, maybe. Whatever, it's too late now, isn't it? If that driver just pulled over for some lightweight reason, he'll be living with the results for a long time. Hopefully long enough to keep him/her off shoulders from now on.
