Today was a bust. Going down the road and I hear a strange noise, man it's getting hot in here, wow my coolant temp is going sky high, fan not working, FML! This happened right by a Loves so I pull in and pop the hood and the belt system is completely gone and in pieces taking my A/C tensioner with it. Sitting here waiting on them to get the part and put it all back together again. Will cost me 425.00 for everything, including labor.

    Grijon Thanks this.

All fixed up and fine. I was just talking to a friend about it the day it happened. I was telling him at my next oil change I was going to have the belts replaced and all pulleys checked. I knew it was coming but didn't expect that.

    Grijon Thanks this.

Got my last run for the month. This will make for 1.319 per mile on all miles to the truck, 10823 miles for the month, and 14,276.00 in revenue. My running cost for the month was only .92 cpm seeing as my fuel mileage for the month is 8.6 mpg. I would like to see the total rate per mile up there at 1.40 - 1.45 but these guys are happy hauling cheap freight to get back to Arkansas.

I am making good money and exploring some other options in the meantime. I don't have two years solo driving until November when many more doors open for me.

    Grijon Thanks this.

So right now you are earning 40 cpm. Company drivers make more than that. As soon as you get enough experience for a good carrier to look at you, you need to jump ship asap.

Loose Leaf and Grijon Thank this.

That .40 cpm is AFTER paying myself and all other expenses. I pay myself a salary and that is already figured in to my running costs. Depending on the miles my salary is about .28-.30 cpm of that .92 cpm number I put out there. So, I could pay myself a lot more but that isn't my focus right now.

    Grijon and JJSKOA Thank this.

Since you are operating as an "S" Corp, are you including the company portion of your salary in your operating cost per mile? Not a huge dollar amount, I am just wondering.
    Thanks

The taxes my business pays on my salary are .045 cents per mile and are also in that number.

We'd all like to be around 1.40-1.50, but it seems that's a struggle to find these days for vans after everybody takes their cut.
