Been there, done that once or twice myself.
It's even worse with a spring ride tractor.Big Don Thanks this. -
I hooked a set of triples at our South Bend barn for an inbound driver that was running low on his clock. Afterward I couldn't help but take it for a turn around the yard just to see what it was like. Low speed in a controlled area, not too bad. I'm sure it's a whole different animal on the road.
Those triples guys are crazy good at hooking up. They can set up and back a trailer and dolly under another trailer like it's nothing. Backing two pups is
for showing off, but backing the dolly under a rear box seems like a useful skill. I think I'll practice it when I have time (which isn't often). -
Eh you get used to those doubles, youll never leave your company. Only reason I left mine is because a Canadian came down and bought the company and sent it to Canada. That was a little too far to drive to work from GA.

actually he may not have been joking, the more you look at them, the more they wiggleLOLBig Don and Pintlehook Thank this.

I'm happy here. The terminal is 10 mins from my house, no traffic going to or coming from work. The best thing is I have the route I always wanted... I have it all here, but some how I am always looking for other opportunities.
That company you worked for don't come into the U.S ? -
As far as I know, they got out of the doubles business and changed their name to Apex Express. Havent seen any of their trucks here but they might? They kept the straight trailers that Humbolt had. Not sure what they did with the company tractors? probably kept some of them since most were practically new. That was in 95.Last edited: May 28, 2016
Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this. -
It's very nice to be able to do that, especially in the winter. It's a pain to have to move the dolly by hand already, even worse when there's a bunch of snow on the ground.Naptown Thanks this.

I'd go back to Reddaway in a heartbeat if I could. It was, hands-down, the best job that I ever had. But unfortunately, since I'll be moving to Texas next month, that will never happen. The funny thing is, I applied for an opening at YRC in San Antonio, and they sent their "We are pursuing other candidates reply". I was hoping that 7 years with one of their Companies would get my foot in the door. I've applied at several places, but I'm convinced that since I'm still in Cheyenne, that they don't consider my application. So, when I get there, I'm going to start making a personal appearance at a lot of doors, and hope that my experience will land me a job quickly. I've already applied at R&L, Saia, Black Horse, YRC, Central Freight, and a few others. So far the only return call has been from Sunset Logistics for hauling bulk tankers of cement and fly ash. I'd really love to land a line haul / shuttle gig again. I'm 47 now, and P&D doesn't get easier.
Mike2633 and Giuseppe Ventolucci Thank this. -
Something that strikes me here, is the number of drivers I've read on the forum, (not just this thread,) that at one time had "the best job I ever had." What a shame that hindsight is so much better than foresight. Not criticizing anyone here, as I've done the same dog gone thing. Just thinking about how there aren't any "do-overs" in life. Or very few, anyway.
