With Microsoft it's best to wait until they release a new version and then use the one that they just replaced since they finally got it right.

Sounds like you had a video card driver issue. Hope it is setteled out. I am hanging on to my XP PC for as long as I can myself.

    Cybergal Thanks this.

I bought a Toshiba lappy with Vista pre-loaded on it fully intending to downgrade from day 1. However, not doing the proper research has kicked me in the anal area. It appears that Toshiba isn't offering XP drivers for any of their newer models. But I have hacked and hacked and got it to work. Only 2 exclamation points in Device manager and I know what they are. Anyone else need help downgrading their Toshiba lappy let me know. Glad to help.

I am asking this question for myself as well, why are we bothering XP or Vista, why not make the plunge to Linux. I'm used to it though and old enough to resist fiddling with something else. BTW, Vista Business without any service packs was unusable, even reloading per the manufacturer's recommendation didn't fix it but Vista Ultimate is working fine on my laptop.

I'm not upgrading my desktop and not going to go back to XP on the laptop, any computer I get from now on will be compatible and supported to use with Linux.

I'm an avid linux user as my network server and my network router at home. however, I've found IN MY EXPERIENCE, Linux can be SUCH a pain in the ### with wireless devices. Also trying to get my aircard to work in linux has proved to be no less of an ache. I LOVE linux as a server. UNBEATABLE. PERIOD. For me, just not enough driver support for newer laptops and hardware. For a novice trucker/computer user I don't think Linux would be an option. Command line scares new users. Especially with no instructions.

Your experience is important. Hardware can run more than 1 OS.
What I said was that the device would need Linux support before I would buy it, there are laptops which do support it, my Lenovo IBM does, and my guess would be that there are drivers for it, if usability is the only issue, why not MAC?

    Greetings...

I was a beta tester of Vista... my impression was 'not too bad'.

I liked the new interface look (which I have on my XP machine using XP Transformation Pack :) ).

The one thing to remember... UAC (User Access Control) is designed to stop unknown / unwanted programs from loading on your computer. Unfortunately, it doesn't 'read your mind' when you are trying to install something and pops up :(

You can either disable it or learn to work with it... I disabled it on the beta version.
