Looked into Telus and their US roaming is at $7 a day..bit steep I think. Thinking maybe getting a cheap flip phone with a pay as you go US number for when I'm across the border. Any other ideas fellas? What plans work best given our situation? Not running deep south but usually kicking around the PA, MI, WI, IN areas..

Rogers all you can share .....
5$ a day for rooming max 50/month -
Cricket has a US plan that allows roaming in Canada. (They are part of ATT so they have a good network.) Unlimited data for 70 USD. But 51% of your usage has to be in the US.
If you just want voice i'm sure a cheap paygo plan would work. -
I use Bell. Same plan as Rogers. I hate Bell slightly less. Coverage is good everywhere. Good for low data use, 100 mb per day for that $5 in USA and doesn't count toward your monthly allowance. No overages. Not good if you are watching a lot of video but for business purpose it's good.

I'm fine with just voice while states side. Just to call customers/dispatch/wife. I just resigned with Telus a few months ago..would cost far too much to cancel and go with Bell or Rogers.

I have a separate phone and plan with Verizon. Currently have 20GB for $120USD, total bill is usually $160ish (includes unlimited long distance to Canada).
US Phone is an iPhone 6, we use it throw a hotspot for our 2 Canadian iPhones, iPads and MacBooks while on the road.
I had an unlimited data plan with t-mobile, but their network is so sad that we scarcely could use 3GB/month, since we virtually never get service.
The US phone is also tax deductible.
It's well worth the cost to us, since Internet at truck stops tends to suck, plus running team means we aren't often stopped for more than our 30 mins rest breaks to use it anyway. -
I would just buy a Wal-Mart phone, they have an "unlimited" plan for around 50$ with taxes included. If you don't need data coverage you can run Metropcs for 35/month including taxes, but the coverage can get pretty spotty.

Thanks for the info drivers. Won't be venturing into the states for too many days at a time so I can deal without having data on the US phone. Can use wifi when available on iPad or my Canadian iPhone.

Except there is no cap. So if you use it 20 days you're paying 100 instead of 50 on rogers. (I would prefer the old $30 a month plan which was only voice and text back.)
