So you are around Oak Creek I take it. I am working out of West Allis. Over on this end they have signs all over around the area from ABF, Central Transport, and the smaller companies, but I just feel weird taking my truck and stopping to talk on company time when I am suppose to be working. Any idea about any of the places you listed?

I know they are mostly LTL and usually pay very nicely, but is their a difference between any of them that you know of? I guess that's what I really want to know about the LME and the ABF and all of those bigger carriers, is any of them much different than the other, or they basically all the same? And what is the job? Meaning, what is it that is expected while working for certain companies like these?

Hey China, Do you have any idea what the market is for car hauling anymore?

I almost quit my job last year (thankfully I didn't) and almost signed a deal to work for a guy that had 4 trucks but it was a 1099 deal, even though the money and the deal sounded really nice I talked to two different accountants about the paperwork I was suppose to sign and I refused and walked away from the deal.

I figured a W-2 working for a company to get the experience was more the way to go, I take it most carriers are independent with contracts linked directly towards the dealerships they are delivering to. Its just difficult to find carriers that hire new guys into that part of the industry and there really isn't any major carriers or companies that really actually do.

I think United Road hires new drivers and new cdl grads for car hauling.
When I pulled tankers, many of the drivers there were former Teamster car haulers. The reason they quit was because of severe back problems due to what's required in that line of work.
Seems that's one of those "love it or hate it" type of trucking jobs.

You could try Black Horse Carriers, they have the Aldi's account on 13th & Ryan Rd. It's hard to get on there, alot of work but really good money to be made. I think any Union LTL Company like ABF will be hard to get permanent full time work. Most are let go under there 90 conservative work day rule, that's why they always advertise. You could also try a company called Complete Transportation on 116th. St. just north of Lincoln Ave. in West Allis, they are local and have runs to the Twin Cities, but they might be on the lower end of making money. I also live in West Allis, all the LTL jobs that the other poster named pay very well, they are pretty much all the same but remember, where ever you go your going to be at the bottom. I know of an x co worker at Dayton Freight and is doing very well there. Seeing you live in West Allis, you could try Roundy's in Oconomowoc, they are union but were just bought out by Kroger and Kroger out source's there Transportation so you would have to see what the future brings with that.

Thank you rocknroll81, I have drove past that Complete Transportation a few times now, I make frequent stops on that street to a frequent customer and its a actually a pretty good hot spot for where I see a lot of advertisement. Ive tried to get into Winter Services for the past two winters, but no such luck as this past winter was mild and the winter before I didn't apply till almost January when it was much too late.

I understand starting off at the bottom, we all go through it starting off. I am just looking now for something that is worth it to last and make some good money while enjoying my job. I talked to a few ABF employees when they come into my work place, and they all sound a little disgruntled about what they do. One flat out told me recently that I would be better off finding some place else. I don't mind the hard work, that's already what I do. But, I want peace of mind with who I work for now, and a paycheck that represents the work load (if that makes sense) I have my own idea about what I want to do on my own in the future, but for the time being I just want to put in the time to work for a good company that will appreciate me the same way I will appreciate them. What I have is not bad, I will never say that. However, I do want to move up in the world and have pride again for who I am working for........somewhere I have lost that with my current employer. So instead of getting demanding and trying to get something I probably just wont get, maybe its just time for me to move on.

Going into the company I work for now the first two years they were the best to me, because they showed me some things and I did things I have never done before, even though the pay was stagnant I still loved the challenge of it everyday and now, starting off as a rookie is the most humble time you can experience when starting off new in life. I just feel that not only have I gotten good at what I do for my current company, they never compensated me for what I do for them now.

I have taken down in notes all the places that have been said in this thread and I thank you China, Rocknroll and Crazy. I will look into all these places, A good work place is hard to find and will be sure to let you know what I find, and where I might end up. Homework is all part of it, I will keep you guys posted.

If you want to stay physical with a job, i would say Black Horse will give you that. From what I understand is all the groceries are prestaged at the DC and you load the trailer yourself, then unload at the stores. They are twelve hour days, either start and midnight or noon, not sure if that changed, good luck, let us know what yer doing.

I also wish to pass along good luck.Going into the LTL forum on this site may be helpful if you're considering one of these places. I really can't be specific about any of these places. Personally I work for a smaller air freight company.I Just notice l the opportunity around the airport area thought Id mention it. I've picked up loads of empty beer cans from Complete warehouse.Another company that hauls put of there is Barry trucking.
