I have owned 3 petes and yes they have proplems I have owned 8 KWs and they have problems and 4 freightliners and they have problems never have owned a volvo because I know better
What I have done for the last 23yrs is oil field work with them and that tends to magnify any problems they have I am also a big fan of data because I am in this for the money and I try not to make decisions based on anything but data
so here is what my data shows in a nutshell avg out over 500k per truck and it shows that conventional wisdom is often wrong
Cat engines that everyone seems to want if you just look at the numbers are junk, Detroits s60 took the least amount of money to maintain and repair n14 where also fairly easy on the bottom line
Eaton rearends that almost everyone would spec I have replaced 3 power dividers and 6 pigs and 9 axle shafts (mostly because drivers don't know how to treat lockers)
trucks with rockwells 1 power divider
the point of this is numbers never lie but most folks don't tend to use them
I will say that now that I am getting ready to hang this all up that I wish all the trucks in the yard were pete 379s however as one other inescapable fact is they bring a much higher price on the auction blockpoppapump1332 Thanks this. -
I think you just summed it up. My 01 Classic doors close just fine. No leaks when I wash it. The only issue that I will say is a problem and was already mentioned is the window track swelling up over the years and having a hard time putting the window up all the way because it catches. This is on the passenger side. Other than that, no squeaks or rattles and the ride is fantastic loaded or empty. If any truck is neglected over the years it will have issues.

I have a 2001 Peterbilt 379exhd, 550 cat, 18 speed, no leaks when it rains or when I get it washed, try to get it washed once a week.
The_Great_Corn Thanks this. -
Still don't understand the fascination with cats to me they're like Harley's overpriced, expensive to maintain and way overrated I'll take a Cummins any day.

There was a time around here that you couldn't pay a logger to touch a truck with Eaton axles. They were avoided like the plague because they were junk and wouldn't last.

fld's are great trucks but petes are more comfortable tighter trucks with better fit and finish.
poppapump1332 and nonsense007 Thank this.
