Picked up in dravousburgh pa at us steel irvin heading towards hueytown al. Just come off pa43 turnpike and got on i68, 5 miles before the interchange to i79 just outside Morgantown, it sounded like a gun shot. I honestly thought i had been shot at until i realized the truck had a vibration in the drives, looked in my mirror and seen tread flying and my mudflap hanger had went flying. I pulled onto the shoulder flipped on my hazards and started to slow down. That's when i noticed i was right next to a guard rail. I remember from years back when i was pulled over by an ohio stare trooper in my pov that when pulled over, they prefer you not stop next to a guard rail because you are forced closer to roadway. So i pushed on at 35mph til i got clear of the guard rail. Now here i sit waiting for road repair to come out.![]()
Had my first blowout today

If you have duals, GET OFF THE FLIPPIN' ROAD!!!!!!! Limp that SOB up to the next get-off, run down to the bottom of the ramp, and look to see if there is a SAFE place to have the tire replaced (vacant lot, wide pull-off, etc...). Worst case, pull across onto the get-on ramp to have the work done, where traffic is generally moving slower and more alert.
Think about the guy you're asking to risk his life wrestling that tire with traffic zipping by at 70 mph a few inches off his backside. How would you feel if you got to watch that tire guy get creamed KNOWING that YOU were the one who put him there? Get that POS off the road.
§ 396.7(b) Exemption. Any motor vehicle discovered to be in an unsafe condition while being operated on the highway may be continued in operation only to the nearest place where repairs can safely be effected. Such operation shall be conducted only if it is less hazardous to the public than to permit the vehicle to remain on the highway.
That doesn't mean drive 100 miles to a company yard, or to run 30 miles flinging rubber to a tire shop. Next SAFE place to stop and wait for the repair to be made.johnwayne187, snowlauncher, Tac-Lift and 13 others Thank this. -

Big Don, WildTiger1990, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would just go to the truck stop, or nearest shop.

I remember my first blow out sounded like a cannon, I almost pooped my pants it was so loud
And BTW gunner you're suppose to have one of those triangles 10 ft in front of your truck also , not a big deal unless you run into a green state trooper....lol
.... I have limped to the nearest safe place as long as you're not throwing rubber on everyone on the highway -
The triangle 10 feet ahead of your disabled vehicle is for when you are disabled on a two lane road to warn the opposing traffic, on a 4 lane all 3 go behind the vehicle, 10 feet, 100 feet and 300 to 500 feet, longer if over the crest of a hill or on a curve.

How long since you checked your tires? Blown tires are due to tire neglect.
strollinruss Thanks this. -
That being said, more than likely it was a partially deflated tire. If you don't have a gauge and a tire hose (which you should) make sure to have the tire guy check them all for you.
