I have an annoying rattles that comes from the top of my shifter. Sounds like something is lose inside the top, right underneath the diagram of gear pattern. Not sure how to even get the top off to investigate. Any advice?

Mine does the same thing (Eaton 10 speed). I've checked the screws, but that's about it. I've just learned to live with it.

The shift pattern is a little cap that is press fit on, there is usually a small nitch you can get the tip of a small screw driver or knife to pop off,

My Eaton 18speed shifter knob started to rotate side to side very soon after I first received it. Mine has 2 small hex head screws in the front side of the shifter. After taking the screws out the sleeve drops down exposing a nut. I tightened this nut and it took care of my problem.

My little shifting diagram used to pop completely off in a KW T680. Had to pop it back in a few times a week. Finally I fixed it with Gorilla Tape. Problem SOLVED.

I haven't looked at a shifting pattern since I was in cdl school haha. Don't think most of us need them, other than the first few shifts with a new shifter maybe.

If shifter is loose, you might need a new shift tower.

If you have a vibration, you want to check universal joints & make sure your driveline is not out of phase.

I have had the same issue with an Eaton 10 speed..
It was not in the shifter but inside the trans....easy fix.....It took the shop about 45 minutes to pull the rubber boot off and the bolts on the top of the trans...replace nylon or some kind of bushing and it was like new again.

The sound just radiates up to the shift knob and tightening it does not work.

If you drive and rest your hand on the shift knob it wears that out.

    KriegHund and Lepton1 Thank this.
