Check out Mills, they used to have a good reputation. I have not been keeping up on good company that train, but they are not the swifts and CR Englands. They use to pay more then most hiring new drives. They have a training place over by Cincinnati Ohio. They claim to pay about $75 a day while training

If you have the knowledge to pass your permit test. Go do it. I know ppl all over Pa who can provide work and/or a place to stay. Once you get your permit, I hate to say it but cr England will put you on a bus the same day. If you can't afford the DMV fees pm me. Or just put in your apps and go to a company school that does everything. Permit, training and rd test all in 3 to 4 weeks. Good luck

Stop feeling sorry for yourself ...trucking will save your life, it saved mine
Dumdriver Thanks this. -
Why not walk into Lowes and ask if they're hiring? With a stub you can rent a place.

Get to the wifi and send out the apps now. Get headed to orientation on Tuesday. You're just being silly at this point. Well, actually, you're just being a baby/ but I'm respectful and have no time or interest in Internet battles with people I don't know and will never meet so i didn't want to put it so bluntly.
Just do what ya gotta do and stop thinking / talking /typing about it.
You can do it! -
any port in a storm, as they say. Or if you prefer, one day at a time.... Call Swift or US Express, take the 1st orientation you are offered and head that way. You'll be committed to them for a year, but you'll have a roof over your head, food in your belly, and on the way to learning a trade that could support you for life. Doesn't matter what kind of BS you have to put up with during your year, and there will be BS, you can put up with anything for a year. It seems your desire is to become a truck driver, make it happen. It won't be easy, but your looking at the alternative right now. Your decision, but you won't be alone, true drivers are out here who can and will help as long as you are straightforward and honest.
NavigatorWife and heckclan Thank this. -
OP. I'll share a story to encourage you.
I got back into trucking in '12. After a few months driving with my brother I went with Swift. Started orientation with 42 drivers, finished with 18. I then did the full 240 hours BTW training.
While I was low on my luck and finances, there was a recovering alcoholic in orientation that had only his pickup truck to live in. For some reason on the last day of orientation he got disqualified due to something on his background check.
After finishing orientation I was ready to get in a trainer's truck, refusing to go back home to wait and Swift didn't want to pay more hotel bills for me to wait.
That "homeless person" offered to let me sleep in the bed of his pickup that night. Fortunately I got a trainer and hit the road.
Four months later I came back to the Jurupa Valley terminal and saw the same guy. He passed orientation the next week, finished training, was living out of the truck, and for the first time in his life had money in the bank.
I stay in touch with him. He's since moved on from Swift and continues to pad his savings, living in a truck. His dream is to buy a ranch and pay cash. He's within $150K of realizing his dream. OTR gave him the opportunity to see all 48 states and he's figured out the best place to buy is in NE Texas.
Have a Plan. WORK the Plan.
