Hi, new to the industry here with a few quesitons.
1. Can exhaust fumes leak into the cab while driving/idling if there's a hole in the floor of the cab? I found a small hole next to the gas pedal (about .5-1cm wide), and have noticed a burnt smell in the past while jumping on the highway loaded shifting hard through the gears. Do I need to have the hole patched up, is it dangerous?
Edit: Can the source of the smell be coming through the A/C vents? Is it dangerous to have a hole in the cab?
2. Are new clutches heavy? The truck I'm in needs a new clutch and in its current state it's pretty heavy causing me knee problems. I'm hoping once it's replaced, it'll be lighter and easier on the knee.
Thanks![]()

Only way to get a lighter clutch is get an assisted one or just not use it.

Agreed. Float the gears to minimize clutch usage. You can adjust when the clutch engages, but idk if that would really be any help to you.

If anything, a new clutch would have a heavier pedal since the springs you're fighting against are new and not weakened from heat and fatigue.
If you're in an older truck (like mid 90's or older) you likely will have a few holes in the cab for mechanical linkages to go through but I would advise looking for possible exhaust leaks. Common spots are any connections and flex pipe. Look for black soot trails on the outside of the pipes, that will be where the leak is. Also check exhaust manifold bolts and turbo mount bolts as well.Nuww Thanks this. -
If your clutch is cable or hydraulic both of those components can cause high pedal pressure and have nothing to do with the clutch.
I have seen a few old pressure plates that required extremely high pedal pressure to release. I don't know why, something binding up in them? The replacement did not.
The Eaton Easy Pedal requires less pedal pressure than some others. -
If you're worried how heavy the clutch is, wait until you unbolt the transmission!
