That's a good idea; go to a different dmv office and try again.
As for refresher/retraining:
Nick Strimbu Inc.
Celadon
Southern Refrigerated Transport
Maverick Transportation
Jim Palmer Trucking
I think Nick Strimbu Inc. reefer division gets the most miles.
If you get your cdl back through the dmv, Freymiller might hire you and put you through their "Restore Program" which is for drivers that have been off the road a few years. The website has 5 years, but they bend the rules on that and go back further for a good applicant.
Cdl no longer valid because of a lapse of 6 months and no medical card in Virginia.

Yeah. that is a Virginia thing. You are going to have to jump thru the hoops and do everything over. Like some of the others have said, you'll probably have to go to a school for a refresher and truck to use. Pretty stupid that this state does that, originally I'm from CA and all you had to do there was re-instate your medical and you were all set. Good luck and safe travels

I understood In WA that the moment the Medical expires the CDL is void and you have to start the CDL process from the start. In WA that includes 160hours of schooling. I certainly could be wrong on this but the WADOT sends me messages to that affect every other year.

Appears the Feds are into everything concerning the trucking industry I guess they'll be controlling med cards here soon to.

The Feds already control medical cards.....the states are following the federal rules.
I think most states send out a letter stating that if you don't keep your medical card current, they will derate your license to a class c license. There may be some states that don't follow the federal rules precisely, for whatever reason.audeygdad Thanks this. -
Here in Virginia the DMV is told to say no as often as possible. The SS officers marching around collecting your clipboard will make sure you don't step out of line.
Try a different DMV.audeygdad Thanks this. -
