Key West to Norfolk, Va

They doing it now until July 6th

 

Call it 24 hours travel time plus one night between.

Miami to Georgia straight up 95 will consume most of your day. You might make it to around Savannah or so before you have had enough for the day what with the kids. Sleep there.

Take off early because Norfolk rush will eat you up when you get there what with the tunnels and so on.

 

And since they on strike on Florida or Miami I say we join them nation wide!

Traveling on the holiday is always a crap shoot. The Law in our area gets really predatory. We stay home usually. Get a bang here or 2000 miles over there it's all the same to us. Now we did have one 4th on Adams mountain out west that was one to remember one year...

 

My BEST 4th of July was staying with my Wife's bro's family in late 80's in NY / LongIsland actually; went to the city for the 4th, and watched the fireworks from ATOP tower one. They were at eye level some actually lower. I was young then. Too bad the young can't do that now. :'(
At our age, we stay home as well. Safety is paramount.
I don't miss Florida OR New York~!

 

You're leaving Key West on Sunday? Be prepared for 4-5 hours just to get to Homestead. I spent 5 days bumming around the Keys a couple of years ago and can recommend some places to check out if you aren't in a bug rush.

I ran into this fella on No Name Key and a gator on Big Pine Key about an hour before the deer. BTW, that's a Key deer and they are an endangered species that roams around freely in the Big Pine Key area.
