Hey everybody, I saw that Prime is looking to hire for a local route out of a wal-mart DC in Olney IL. I was just wondering if anybody by chance had experience with this DC or a similar Prime local job. As usual their websites give you just enough info to make you go Hmm.
I have 4 months OTR experience through another company and have pulled Prime loads before so it won't be a major shock learning their system.

I voluntarily ran Olney for 6months back in 2013 as an OTR driver. Was my favorite Walmart by far to run (Shelbyville,TN & Lewiston, ME being the others) & the on site dispatchers were down to earth & let me pick my loads once I had proven myself.
Just finished remodeling the driver showers when I left, free coffee in dispatch office, nice people.
Make less money than OTR but it's super easy & you can get plenty of sleep since you set your own Planned Time of Availability, unlike reefer OTR in my experience.
Usually get preplan for load 6+hrs in advance which is awesome & about 60% of the time your load is ready a couple hrs early & they send you a message saying such.
Loads dispatch 24/7 so there is almost always something to run your time out on even if it is just getting it out the gate & taking your 10 at a store or something.
Walmart drivers run out of Olney as well but only do the dry remix loads; prime does all the leftovers & about 30% of the time you can get a same day/next day dry load that D&H's at the last store.
I averaged $850 take home a week @ sliding milage scale pay minimum .40cpm + fuel bonus (not as good as it was anymore) + $15 stop pay after first store.
Unlike OTR, you do not get a .05cpm lightweight bonus so try to negotiate a full size truck.
Loved the running area - southern half of IL, St.Loius & southeast MO, Jonesboro, AR, Nashville, Bartlett, & a couple other northwestern TN stores, couple Indianapolis stores & southwestern quarter of IN, Western half of KY. Lots of back/farm road driving & out of the way towns that wouldn't expect a Walmart to be in.
If you are a local driver they usually give you runs so you are home almost every night according to the locals I talked to.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I run or and love it. I would like to run on East coast with my lease teammate.

I've hauled store runs from there.
Not totally familiar with it but not that bad.
I think if you do it long enough you'll get to some of the same places over and over, get used to getting in and out of the locations. -
It's a pretty nice gig. I've been on it since going solo in 2015. Easy work, especially once you start getting a lot of repeat stores and learning which stores will give you trouble. You usually run one or two routes a day, and you can park at most of the stores overnight for your 10. You set your own PTA for when you'll be back, and they'll schedule your next load accordingly. You can be lazy or driven and still make decent money for a company driver. There are also a few lease operators on this account.
Honestly, most of your irritation is going to be from dealing with the Wal-Mart associates. The dispatchers at Olney are real nice people, and take care of any issues. If you live within the delivery area, you will get by the house much more than you would OTR. The vacation scale is a bit shorter since you run fewer miles on average. I was given a condo after several months without any fuss, and if you plan to stay on this account, it's really something to consider as there's no benefit to running a lightweight here.
If you live within 50miles of the DC, you can apply for local. They run slipseat LW Prostars, and you will get home nearly every night. You can also pick a day or two to have off every week.
Overall it's a nice account to be on. I've been content with my time here, and I prefer this much more than being OTR. -
Thanks for the responses everybody, if I do decide to go this route I am assuming I will have to go to Springfield to do all of their paperwork and such for orientation correct?

Well I agree it is easy but I went through three light weight trucks.

I have been in the industry a short time but Prime treats drivers better and wants them to succeed. text 570 687 4336 and I will let you know what to do. Leasing is a good route.
