I used to try to get fired from a company I worked at not by being late or any driving type issues but I would refuse loads and basicly dictate what I would do. Example, I live in northeast Tennessee. I ran a load down to Chattanooga one day. I was supposed to get a load back to northeast Tennessee from Cleveland Tennessee but it got cancelled. They sent me a pick in Atlanta and I knew I would run out of time so I dead headed 225 miles back home. Went back in the next day and they never said anything. Couple weeks later they suspended me 2 days with pay lol. And to beat all they let me pick the days so I picked Friday and Monday lol.

There's a difference between late and late. At sni anyway. You won't get fired for being late for the eta to delivery you send. Unless that era for delivery is past the window of delivery the customer wants. Then, set what's realistic but don't be late for that.
Example 1: I pick up and go to set eta. Customer is 300 miles away. Drop window is today to next Wednesday. I set eta for 6 hours from now and then show up 7 hours later. I'm past the "ETA to delivery" that I set but not past when the customer wants. Counts against my bonus criteria and if I do this enough I will get training for trip planning but not going to get me fired.
Example 2: I pick up and go to set ETA. Customer is 300 miles away (I keep using 300 because in a 60mph truck that's 5 hours with best possible conditions) drop is a hard appointment 4 hours from now. I set ETA to 6 hours from now and show up 7 hours later. Customer rejects load cause it's late. Had I shown up when I set the ETA for, I'd have had a leg to stand on in this argument. But I was late and even though the appointment was impossible from the beginning, I didn't even make my own ETA. Do this enough and you might get fired.
In situation of example 2, smart thing would be to see that it's 300 miles, know it's 5 hours and then set the ETA for 8 hours. If you do show up in 5 hours, it's within the window (3h prior 30 min past) and gives time for random crap that could happen. Also, impossible dispatch.. Should be mentioned to dbl. message or call. I get fired all the time and I have never, ever, been late. Fired for something I said, twice. Fired for safety twice. Fired because the company went broke, twice. Fired because of a blow oil line and rapid lost of oil pressure, once. Fired once because of a Costumer complain. Fired once because a four wheeler called in and complained.
####, now that I have written it all down, I may have to fire myself. -
This goes for pretty much any job. Usually no one will praise you or tell you "good job" so if no one is paying attention to you, you're probably doing something right. Believe me, the moment you screw up, you'll be the first one to know about it.

At my last job in sat telecom we had a cdl driver who would bring us our supplies from Cleveland to our storage units once a week. Was a good guy, but was very popular with the women in the office. He ended up meeting a young and very attractive girl at a local club, they dated for several months, when he ended up breaking her heart, he find out her father was also the head guy for the account in ohio for his company. It was never revealed why he got fired, but we're pretty sure it was because he"damaged"too many machines in transit
