whats up guys. i just started getting all my things together the past 2 months to get on the road. was on the way to get my skills test done today and still haven't got my full cdl due to me side swiping a car with the ### end of trailer i know i know. they sent me to the wrong dmv in downtown greenville SC just about couldn't get back out lol. anyways i just wanted to get some pointers on anything y'all have. i have a 51 foot wedge and 03 f350 6.0 bullet proofed. i have my IFTA, DOT MC, 2million coverage and 150k load coverage. truck and trailer DOT inspections. Drug screen for DOT records i guess bc they sent me a letter in mail to get one done. and what ever else I'm supposed to have i can't think of right now. All in all i just want some input bc after today my confidence and drive has went to #### after my first little mistake. got away with just paying them 300$ so it won't go on my outrageous insurance. i have like $35K invested as of now and aint on road yet bc i have to wait another week for a test opening. thanks

Sell the Ford, even the "bulletproofed" 6.0 isn't cut out for this business. You've started up in a rough time in trucking. You're going to have to really get out there and chase the money for a while. Especially living in a cheap southern state like SC. As much as it sucks you'll probably have to find whatever you can to VA or North of there to get you in the money. Good luck

Why would you sink money into equipment without first getting the license to operate the equipment? You hit a vehicle already. What will you do when on a dealers lot?

More times than not in car haul you will find yourself in places you should not be especially if you do personal owner vehicles.
You better figure out quickly how to manage these situations quickly or you will be out quick due to insurance problems.
Sometimes the only answer is to call the local police and have them stop traffic so you can back out on to a highway.
As for long trailer tails, it's a fact of life in car haul no matter who makes the trailer.

I don't go anywhere new until I have Google Mapped it and looked at the satellite view. I've parked the truck and walked in for pick up's and deliveries several times rather than have to back out, get stuck or tear up your trailer tires. Sign up with Central Dispatch and make some good contacts with Brokers and Car Dealers.

The most important thing........ DON'T HAUL CHEAP FREIGHT. NO MATTER WHAT!!!

what are some good things i ned to have done to my trailer? i think i need expanded metal on the ramps and all the way up trailer it seems like it will be slick when wet? do y'all like chains or straps. i know you have to strap new cars. not old ones tho i have the chain things on mine and D rings for straps and winch. 51 foot. i want to put extensions on the front but don't know what kind of angle i should do to keep from hitting my cab on any kind of angles turns or what not

Start putting money away now. You will be paying for damage with those loading skids and also the way they just drop into the bracket that holds them. Also the license plate is in your way.

    Terry270 Thanks this.
