Best wishes for you and your dad!
Why not turn it up to 450 or the 500 rv spec? I would think that longevity would still be there since you won't have to push it to the max all the time like you would a 400 or 425 but I could be wrong. I Know a few guys with turned up Mack E-7's (11.9L) over 500hp and its treating them well and getting better mpg #'s over stock.

Well there is that issue .
Also the guy in Australia said with the exhaust brake and the jake on at same time the turbo would only build 2 psi boost. Too much back pressure ,turbo won't spool properly to aid in jake performance. Just not a good combo. -
Problem with the exhaust brake and jake brake is to get them set to be compatible with each other. The exhaust brake is just a flap valve that restricts exhaust flow. You want to set it so it only closes a little not completely working with a jakebrake. I don't think the exhaust brake is worth the $$$ and hassle for no more than they help. Jakebrake is enough.AshtonMarie81 Thanks this.

Ok thanks guys,,, see this is why I ask questions,, it sounded like a good idea,, my engine brake works ok, just like it to work with the cruise control.. someone said that can be programmed in the ecu.. idk.. lol,

My friends and family are joining in on my father/daughter project truck.. i really think in time my rig is gonna be the most unique special built rig with a lot of heart and soul put into it... i actually want to cry with joy,, how this is slowly bringing my family back together... and its time well spent with my Dad,, he is slowly getting worse from tje cancer. But he still has that strength in him to come out and turn wrenches and give me the greatest thing in life,, the bond between father and daughter...
OLDSKOOLERnWV and clausland Thank this. -
I'm surprised your Jake doesn't work in conjunction with the cruise. While I'm not all that familiar with cummins, it's an ecm controlled engine so not all that different in technology than the Detroit series 60.
Makes me think it's one of two possibilities. 1: the engine didn't originally have a Jake brake and was added by a previous owner and he or she just hard wired it into the dash bypassing the ecm. So the ecm doesn't even know there is a jake. Or 2: a previous owner replaced the ecm with a used unit off a truck with no jake.
If the second is just a matter of paying cummins an hour labor to plug in and set the ecm program. If the first it will require setting the program and wiring it in. 2 to 3 labor hours so either way not all that bad. -
Once the engine is fully over hauled and upgraded, its gonna get tuned by Pittsburgh Diesel Power,, I'm sure they will make all the needed adjustments and updates to the ecm,,, my main want is clean power,, no coal rolling. Its a waste of fuel and honestly i think its dumb,, but want to have this aftermarket water/meth injection put in it also,, lowers egt's and can boost 50 to 70 more hp when needed.. my cousin uses it on his pull truck and daily driver. Says it will make a big difference in keeping my engine running clean and its basically windshield washer fluid your injecting into the intake... once all the mechanical stuff is done,, ill start posting pics of the interior and body changes and mods..

My Dad, and I have been talking a lot on an interior design, I'm going towards a country feel to it,, hard wood floors, pine wall panels to give it that country cabin feel to it,, even gonna do some gun powder etching art work. Of bucks and mountain wild life scenery for the back wall... i really think it will make this a comfortable truck to have around for a very long time...
