Great info here!! Thank you to the more experienced drivers who chimed in. My company is looking into a 44' framless dump for hauling scrap metal into the Boston port (Everett). Anybody with scrap experience care to chime in, I realize most of this discussion pertained to soft ground and dumping sticky loads v. gravel. Not sure if scrap metal has some own peculiarities of it's own to be aware of. Again, great thread!!![]()
to all end dump haulers...

I haul burnt ferrous out of trash plants, be careful when you load sometimes the scrap loads break funny and in the last stage.... Providing it even comes all the way out

If I may ask a stupid question of my own here, I've seen it writtem somewhere of the importance of "blocking the fifth wheel" before raising a frameless dump. How is this done, and for what purpose?
NightWind Thanks this. -
One place to be VERY careful with a dump trailer is a landfill. Holes may disappear when they're covered by trash, but they ARE still there.NightWind Thanks this. -
The articulation is in the trailer 5th wheel on a frameless so the truck needs to be made stationary, my truck has a 1" pin you can slide through the back of it to hold it still then pull out if I want to pull a roll off/walking floor/tanker etc, some wheels also have little flip blocks to do the same, or you can just weld a piece of steel in if it is a dedicated frameless truck.
Hauled plenty of sludge and fluff into land fills as well, piece of plastic in the trailer helps a huge amountNightWind Thanks this. -
I saw one yesterday parked at a waste water plant loading sludge that had springs under the back of the fifth wheel.

This thread has died in stead of starting a new let’s get this one back going!! I have spoken to a few of you guys but curious as to how many are still pulling a frameless
NightWind Thanks this. -
We have three frameless end dumps. Two are 32' and one is a 36'. The 32's are for dirt, sand, and gravel. The 36 is our boulder and shot rock trailer.
They're all about ten years old and so far they haven't been turned over.
Close calls a couple of times, though.NightWind, Joseph-Venport and blade Thank this. -
