Yeah I'd ditch those ramps and get aluminum ramps but keep the metal ones for back up. You're also better off to mount them on the side of the trailer, it's a pain in the ### to get to the ramps when you have a vehicle on the back of the trailer. Keeps some 2x10's in the bed of the truck to put under the ramps to help with low clearance cars. Definitely best to go with strap over tread straps.
If I could give my advice for a new Dually carhauler, it would be: Get airbags for the rear axle so you can keep your rear suspension from sagging, it just makes the truck pull better. Along with the airbags, keep the weight of the cars the best you can on the trailer axles. Load light cars on the front and heaviest on the rear of the trailer. A truck always pulls better when its pulling the weight and not carrying the weight. Good luck!

Not turning this into a Ford or Powerstroke pissing contest, but the fact of the matter is that engine was the basis of a massive class action lawsuit between Navistar and Ford, and you'll get frustrated when you can only do low to mid 60's on the interstate because you'll be grossly underpowered for what you'll need. You'll burn that engine up in a year. Even overlooking all of that, bulletproofing is only as good as the mechanic that performed the work. Just my .02. Good luck.

How do I go about getting the gross weight of my trailer? The trailer Ill be running is currently being built. Would the manufacturer know which tags to weigh the trailer at?

If it's being built by Kaufman you choose if you wanted rated over/under 26k lbs combined with your truck. I would think other trailer manufacturers could do the same?HARRELL HAULING LLC Thanks this.
