Just a quick question, specifically aimed for foodservice guys, but LTL can are welcome to give me some insight as well. First off, I am driving for Reinhart currently, it is my 2nd time around with them, and this time mostly out of necessity. I left once, to get completely out of trucking and the chance I took to better my career fell apart quickly, so my hand was forced to get back into this. Needless to say, I had some outstanding issues with the way things were run when I left and they have not gotten much better this time around. So long story short, routing and load size absolutely suck here. This directly affects my pay, as well as any quality of life that I could manage anyways. For example, one day this week I had a load with fewer than 500 cases and it ended up being 13.5 hour day, as I drove 45 minutes between stops over ten times during the day and spent well over 7 hours of my entire day driving. I am not slow by any means and have been at this for quite a few years, so I know what I am doing, but it is nearly impossible to make up time when you are driving to the same city from another city twice in a day and they are 90 miles apart.
The problem is that the market I work in as a shuttle driver is way down and not growing. Actually GFS, is moving in and killing us. As it stands I already commute 45 minutes each way everyday, and now I am getting combined on a route 3/4 days a week with another driver-losing money, or getting crap routes like the above-and also losing money in a sense. The router is a terrible human with an ego to match and thinks drivers are beneath her, so there is no ability to make inroads there. Management blows smoke and tells me how much they need me and what a good job I do, but I see no movement with this getting better other than having to commute to Raleigh, which would be 1.5 hours each way. I can't get a straight answer if they are going to keep my shuttle lot open, and so here I am in this limbo. I could probably get a job closer to home, but I really hate to make a move at this point. Anyone been through this, and what did you do, or what advice do you have?
Foodservice routing/length of day-Do I need to start looking elsewhere?

Are you hourly or piece work? I always say if it doesn't make cents then it doesn't make sense.
