Not really a "funny pic" but did not want to start another thread.

What the hell sort of construction process is this? Photo taken in NV on US-95 between Tonapah and Hawthorn. As I drove over it, it seemed there was a large inflatable bag extending under the road. Some sort of drain culvert project

They have been doing that for at least 45 years, that I can recall. The ones I was involved with was conduit for utility cables. It's called a "pipe push," at least that is the name we called it back then. Likely a more technical term for it.
In simplified terms, they dig a big hole on both sides of the road way. Then they bore holes under the roadway at the same time they are "pushing" the "pipe" through behind the bore. Then snake the (whatever, cable or fiber optics, and I'm sure a whole lot of others,) through, from one hole to the other.

I've seen them do underground boring to run utilities but never seen an application where steam (or whatever that is) was required. And, there was no boring machine there.

Who knows, maybe they have Harry Reid buried there, and had to dig vent holes for all that hot air....
