So, I've been talking with Jim Palmer Trucking quite a bit the last few weeks, seems like a decent company, starting pay .40cpm (after training) and one year commitment. I'd like to hear your opinions on their training and company in general.
I always like to have a secondary plan in place if something doesn't work out. Excluding SWIFT and CRE who else is a decent company that offers paid training? If it helps out I have a TWIC card, clean driving/criminal record, and I'm 25 just no CDL as of right now.
Thanks.

I will be attending Jim Palmer in a couple weeks. I will post my experience about them when I am able. Use the search function to find a few recent threads about Jim Palmer/Wil-Trans. They are a smaller company that is expanding pretty quickly, so there should be a lot more info about them in the coming months.
As far as other options go, more information would be helpful. Where you are located, what type of freight you want to haul, pet policy, etc.
@Chinatown will probably have some suggestions for you. However, the above information will help him and others give you a better answer. -
I swore I wrote my location, must've forgot to readd it when I rewrote my post. I'm in Vallejo, California about an hour south of Sacramento, I'm looking to relocate though when I have enough $ and tenure at a company.. I'd like to haul refrigerated preferably, won't have pets with me, and preferably a company that has APU's/Inverters.

I never ever heard anything bad about jim palmer trucking outta montana. they were and still are one of the best trucking companies out there. like many of us. they got hit with the csa program. I thought for certian that put them outta business. before any of that. I use to talk to there drivers alot. and they were bring in about 3650 in miles a week. and every one of them liked jim palmer that i talked to. it's good to see there still hanging in there with the rest of us.
if your both going to palmer. that's if i read it right. your making a very good career choice when it comes to trucking companies. to give you an idea. back in 2007 i applied to palmer. it's because of where i live is why they didn't hire me. after that and realizing that all the top jobs in the industry wouldn't hire me. nit picky ***ks!!!!! and realizing i would only ever be able to work for bottom/bad companies. that don't pay or treat there drivers worth a crap. so i figured the only way I would ever be able to have anything more then a bag of dirty clothes. is i had to build my own business and make my own way in trucking and the world.Last edited: Jul 12, 2016

JPT hauls reefer for Prime. JPT uses new 579s and Cascadias, both with APU and inverters.

Aware of this, I'm looking for other companies that run them as well. JP is my first choice, just looking for backup choices.
-
Jim Palmer is the best choice.
Celadon hires students from California; use them as a backup plan. -
coming outta school it's there choice. I think walmart hires students now. walmart you have to apply directly to the dc. meaning you have to go to the dc and fill out a drivers application.
-
Got a phone call today that JP weren't accepting me due to better qualified applicants, from how it was explained it me the class sizes are fairly small and to keep trying. Figured if I go to the trucking school in town and get my CDL that route will open up more possibilities but I'll be calling Celadon in the morning. I appreciate everyone's honesty and help.

sorry to hear that. atleast they were honest. I wouldn't apply again. it's a respect thing. you might try stevens transport. there better then celadon.
