Hi all, I'm currently in Manitoba, Canada about to start looking for a trucking job. I am currently in trucking school now. The problem is, in Manitoba anyway, my abstract is not clean. I had 2 accidents 4.5 years ago in 2012 when I was a teenager along with -1 merits due to the accidents (on our merit system in Manitoba). Bison Transport already declined me.
I'm thinking of moving back to Toronto, Ontario where the abstracts only go back 3 years. Also in Ontario you don't get demerits for car accidents, so in Ontario I would have a perfect score of 0 demerits along with a clean abstract.
Any thoughts?

Brampton would be a good place to start your job search if you move back to Ontario.
-
Is it true that anyone can get a trucking job in Brampton...
-
Your chances are slim and none... And slim just left town.
-
that bad, huh?
-
Well I wouldn't say they are great if even bison rejected you... Might have to wait a bit till everything drops off the abstract.
-
Yeah, abstracts show 10 year history here in Manitoba. So it's either wait it out a long long time or move to Ontario I guess.
-
Dang! Bc it's only 5 years. But you'd also be lieing on a job application if they asked about your accident history and you didn't put it down.
-
Most of the application forms I've seen only ask if you've had an accident in the past 5 years. So in a few months once it's been 5 years I wouldn't be lying.
Even on Bison's application they only asked if I had any accidents in the past 3 years. -
Don't look at bison anymore then. I would finish training and assuming you already have a job doing whatever, just keep doing it. Hand resumes out to companies you see around while working and eventually someone will bite. There's always someone who will take a risk. 4.5 years ago is a long time so own up and admit and let them know you learned from it. Manitoba hey? Have you tried big freight? Kinda the can am west we have out here. If they need drivers they'll work with you. Good luck and just remember, a lot more responsibility with a rig than a car so be alert.
Limnor Thanks this.
