They do hire out on NJ yet that is for current CDL holders per their "NEW GRAD HIRING MAP" just sounds like they won't take students that need to acquire their license.
I'm guessing it has something to do with NJ and how they treat licensing. Massachusetts for example will not honor a CDL-A if you had recently gone out of state to get one, they will make you do a road test with them before they will reissue a Mass license.
I had looked into going with Stevens years ago when lived in Ma. Stevens required you to get a Texas? address and then switch back to your state after school. Ma says no way jose without a road test thru them and the State Police there.

Forgot about that one. Don't they just run eastern states?

That's a pretty good reason to move to Florida.

@Chinatown do you know which of these provide transportation? I know Jim Palmer will pay for a bus ticket or reimburse you for gas.
@Newgirl89 many private schools offer private loans. You could get financed with as little as $500 down, even with poor credit. If for whatever reason you can't get into a training program that will cover all of your expenses, this could be another option for you. A lot of the megas won't pay your lodging. Some such as Knight will pay you $400 (I believe it's $400) a week for living expenses. However, you don't receive this advance until about a week in. That being said you would need just as much money up front for many of the company programs out there, as you would for a private school. -
As far as I know; they all do.

The OP should look into the W.I.A. grant. The Workforce Investment Act grant. You can possibly secure funding for your CDL Class A through this program. We have this out in California through EDD and Alliance WorkNet. What it took, was my harassment of a county caseworker for about 4 straight months before they caved and funded my license. I'm sure New Jersey has a similar program, since the WIA Grant is a federal program. The first place to start, is your local EDD office.

Also, if the OP doesn't want to go OTR to get experience, go to a state that does a lot of agricultural hauling seasonally. They'll hire anyone with a license and a pulse, and that amount of experience seasonally sometimes transfers to that golden "1 year of experience" needed to go land a good job. California is harvesting a lot of grapes and tomatoes right now, I imagine it's the same all around the country.

You can apply for a training grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

There is a condition that you are looking to enter an in-demand industry which I believe commercial driving falls into. There is a spreadsheet available on one of the NJ state websites (I can't remember where exactly) that lists the different occupations and their demand so you can easily see what you will and will not receive approval for.
It's worth giving a shot, I believe the grants go right up to $4,000.
