Not impressed with the training; the commercial drivers manual for my state laid out the standard for passing their test; the practice test on this site are the best.....I studied the manual; understood what was required and worked hard......as far as I can tell my driving school provided me with a big truck and a range to practice what was already outlined in the manual......I feel like I trained myself....Youtube was a big help with the pre-trip........especially this one.
Went to a 4 week 160 hr school and I passed my skills test....

Congratulations.
Now your real schooling will begin out there on the big road.
You are just getting started Dear Grasshopper.
With that said, congratulations. Be very careful out there now. You will be ok. IF you have not scared yourself into quitting the first year.Mike2633, majorbanjo and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
OP, where did you decide to go, company-wise? congrats on the test, man. Awesome.
majorbanjo Thanks this. -
Still deciding on company; but leaning toward McElroy or Abilene.....tried to get on with tanker companies, but no terminals near my house that were hiring......
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Is Chinatown sick today? Usually he's quick to reply to these like a fat kid on a cupcake...

LoL, too funny!!!! Too bad he's skinny, according to his avi, LoL!
@majorbanjo I've heard that BOTH of those are really good companies, btw. Not just here, but on the road, as well. Superior or Quality Carriers don't hire in your area? What do I know; I don't haul food grade, just asphalt. Took me many years to hook up with this job tho; I did my time OTR, yeah even with FedEx/linehaul starting out . . . auuughhh.
Best of luck to ya, man. Nice fish in your avatar; you seem like a guy my age, just lookin to make a livin.majorbanjo Thanks this. -
ps: @Chinatown, are your ears burning? LoL.

52 years young here........submitted application to Superior and couldn't get them to communicate with me......looked at Quality and they require experience, they'll wave it if I have military "driving" experience....but I didn't drive in the military......and turns out they're not hiring in my area anyway......I'm leaning more toward McElroy due manual transmissions......don't want my first job to be automatic......love to fish......
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
That APEX video is one our instructor listed as for a good visual guide. I watched it once and need to a few more times this weekend. Congrats on the pass.
