I have an 05 Cummins ISX as well. Mine start leaking from the front cover drivers side. Very near where the oil fill spout is.
It was just the front cover gasket.
2005 ISX cummins leaking oil at front , not sure from where

I really wish people would update these things.
Anyways, i have what seems to be the same issue. There's oil leaking on the from pass. side of the engine between the cylinder head and front gear cover. It doesn't puddle or drip on the ground, but it gets blowed down the side of the engine.. It's made it as far back as the transmission, and as far south as the oil pan.
I pulled the timing cover off yesterday (cut my hand up in the process), so today i'm going to wedge the cams and replace the seals, and the big ole flat seal for the timing cover and put it back together.
Either it will stop the leak or it wont.
Hopefully if it doesn't stop the leak, i will atleast get my engine to idle a little quieter after adjusting the idle, and cam gears. I already know there's a rebuild in my future.Heavyd Thanks this. -

HEY MITCHTAZZ,
You didn't update us. Was it just your front cover gasket or what.
Thanks! -
Hey HIJINX,
What did you have to do to fix your oil leak? It really does helps us all out if you would update us on your problem, and how you fixed it.
Thanks! -
It turned out to be the front gear cover gasket.
I had to pull the fan, crankshaft pulley, and a couple of idle gears along with the timing gears to get it off.
It probably would have been alot easier if I would have removed the hood and radiator.Just Pankey and Heavyd Thank this. -
Does the idle gears and/or the timing gears have to be adjusted when replacing the front gear cover gasket and was there a special tool needed?
Also, can the cam seals & timing cover seal be accessed when replacing the front gear cover. And did you replace the cam seals & the big ole flat seal for the timing cover & was a special tool needed to replace any of them ?
Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first truck & I want to make sure I hire the right mechanic to do it & sometimes just listening to a mechanic you know you have the wrong one.
Thanks for the update Mitchtazz!!! -
