there are so many opinions against buying a truck! am I missing something, or do all trucks reach a point where they will require more money in repairs than the truck well earn in revenue? My logic is that if you maintain a maintenance fund with enough cash to cover immediate repairs as well as any bills you have while you're down, you'll be fine to hold your breath for a few weeks, and if you're smart about it you keep that fund big enough to replace everything on the whole truck at once. Like TWICE. How else would you see these dinosaurs still on the road from 1994 with candy paint and LED spaceship lights making $1.50+ a mile pulling a tanker just like ours?

Unless you wanted to upgrade to the newest and greatest every few years, shouldn't you be able to find a truck you like and do some work to the sleeper and just keep it alive for 20 years?

I'm a company driver at Schneider bulk, been OTR for almost a year now and really liking the lifestyle. Most nights I'm just dreaming about how cool it would be to be doing the same job, just with double the paycheck and a paid off T660 studio sleeper with some ingenuity applied to the sleeper floor plan. my own little 20 sf tiny house. I've gotten pretty comfortable in the cascadia, but I want to take these darn cabinets out and have open floor space with my bags hanging in the back corners in the ceiling. and take out the passenger seat.

They're a real cash cow, but a lucrative one isn't cheap and banks don't finance them as much like they did in the 90s.

Certificate of deposit, it's worth nothing they barely pay 1% which isn't even the cost of inflation not worth your time or money, a money market account that flucates between maybe 5% to 8% depending on th economy would be much better investment or even a absentee run small business, or look on some investor sites an have people come to you an give you like10% of there profits plus the investment you paid .
