That's funny, I've got a few radios that cost a lot less than what's on the market and they sound great. I never heard a CB that can consistently hear or talk to some of the places I've talked to, but then again many make it out as a need for super tech work that is backing all of it up when it simple is luck.

By the way, 1/2 watt, 10 meters using a 4 foot wire off a red piyita and a small breadboard amp I made 15 contacts all over the world and had two long conversations with people outside of some town in Alberta.

Skip requires no skill as you well know, so it isn't worth mentioning, while groundwave propagation is the only thing worth mentioning.
Notice I never mention all the times I talked to hawaii or europe on a cobra 148 from a car on AM or SSB because it was simple luck from mother nature, while I always mention things that can be replicated at will, like talking from Drums PA to Harrisburg PA from a personal vehicle, something you admit you have never done.[IMG]
So remind me why your opinion would be worth anything to me?

I hear yeah I got a telex turner off him and had a new casing put on it. his problem is he talks to much to customers while working and forgets where he's at on what he's doing. watched him do a guy's galaxy 959 the driver paid him went out to his truck hooked it up and got nothing. driver brought it right back in. don't know what happened with it.I headed back to the big road...

I'll try to break this down in layman's terms. The actual cb ( citizens band) that you don't need a license anymore to run on is the 11 meter band. Your higher dollar what i call fake ham radios like stryker and galaxy 10 meter radios are completely and utterly useless for ham operation. You literally have to make many high dollar upgrades to even converse with actual ham radio operators. The reason these 10 meter radios are so popular with truckers is cause of the fancy controls, freq counter, and talk back and echo. Even on SSB , try talking with the echo on and see how that works out for you. LOL. Back to your original statement about cb's only getting out 10 to 15 miles, that may be true for virgin radios, but a good tune and peek and a antenna system that is set up right, literally anywhere in the USA with the right conditions can be local or heard with a regular cb. I sincerely doubt your swrs are "flat" as you stated. No offense to you , you were probably told that by a "cb tech". The best possible swr is a 1.0 and you are only going to attain that in a controlled environment, on the side of your truck isn't one of them. The question unspoken here is what do you want your cb to do? If you want to just sit and bs and have a blankity blank arguement at the truckstop over who has the biggest radio then just go with a cobra 19 with a sweet 16 amp behind it and watch it cook not only your antennas but your ecm in your truck. But if you really want crystal clear communications over long distances, put in the time to get your ham license. They have dropped the requirments on the different levels of ham licenses a lot over the last decade or so.
