Old post, but the exact same thing has just happened to me. Being retired, I saw an ad that Lazer Spot was looking for a part-time "jockey" near me. I filled the application out online and submitted it. Well within a few hours I get a phone call, the lady asked for my medical card, the long form also, my S.S. card and my driver's license. I faxed all that to her. Couple of days went by and I hadn't heard anything so I called her. She said that the manager of that location would be calling me and bringing me in for a road test, if he had not called by the afternoon, for me to call her back. Well, he didn't call, I tried to call her the next morning, she would not answer, the call went into voicemail. I ain't screwing with it now.

Companies should notify you if you don't make the cut, but they will never tell you why because they don't want Johnny accidentally telling someone that he didn't want to hire a ######, because that would be a lawsuit
Toomanybikes, rabbiporkchop and Lepton1 Thank this. -
At my age, I first start the conversation stating my age and telling the person if there is a problem about my age, tell me and I will bid you a farewell, no problem, just tell me, won't be any kind of legal repercussions, you don't want me, I don't want to work for you.Lepton1 Thanks this.

Yeah but you still get grey area with that, even if they have recorded phone calls. Phone calls can be doctored and fraud can be committed, just ask NBC...

Not saying you would of course!

Well, last month quality carriers was showing interest.
Then didn't hear back.
Then get email yesterday to leave my phone number.
They call. I'm like a month ago I was all ready. You never got back to me after I reached out.
Took a local job.
Local job isn't looking like my cup of tea.
Werner called today.
They've been loyal to me.
Debating on staying at local job or going back to werner.
QC wasted my time. Not sure if I want to go work there -
i only ONCE in my life, went back to an employer that was "loyal" to me, and i deeply regretted it. i had left for a reason, i should have stayed away. i was miserable the second time around.
when a person has made up his/her mind to move on, then do just that, and do not take 27 steps backwards.
do as you wish, but i know i learned my lesson many, many years ago.
best to move forward, and if QC calls you or you decide to go to them after all, then go for it. you are NOT the only person they may not have been able to contact, for whatever reason(s) they give. if you think it's only YOU they are doing this to, you are sorely mistaken. you do realize the amount of online and mail in applications ALL these companies get, don't you?Toomanybikes and BostonTanker Thank this. -
One other possibility..... Carriers ( and others in high turnover industries ) are using new scanning software that predicts your job stability. It's called modeling and I call it stereotyping.
All your information is entered and the computer will model the likelihood of your leaving, personality traits and work habits. This can easily explain why they string someone along with calls and interviews. Google retention software and Staymetrics .
Myself, I've been on both sides of the desk. I know exactly what it takes to attract and retain a quality hand. 97% of the time I couldn't act to catch a quality hand because of corporate policies regarding drivers. I became very unpopular over this. I tracked and reported why I lost good drivers. One regional mgr. asked me if I was crazy....he said " we can't possibly give them that, they're drivers" He said " just get another driver"
Do a little research, take a look at Walmart vs JB or Weiner for example. Use Wally on the front end against most anybody you want in the same class. It's not hard to see why Wally has a waiting list and your guy has empty seats.

In years gone by, when I first wanted to become a "professional driver", it was almost impossible to get your "foot in the door" without knowing someone "on the inside". I had a friend who walked into Mason-Dixon home office in Kingsport, Tn one day and asked for an application, he was told that his would be about the 999 down the list.
The only way that I got on with Johnson Motor Lines in Charlotte, my brother-in-law played golf with one of the vice-presidents. (Pardon me if I name companies that most of you never heard of). Never saw an ad for a driver anywhere. What happened? Deregulation and the decline of organized labor. When drivers today are driving for 1975 wages, plus piss poor benefits how can any company expect "stability"?

I didn't quit. I took a loa to take care of some important things at home.
Was trying out local job while at home to see if it was something I cared for. Turns out I don't.
All the games these employers play. I send out my info and talk. Either they want drivers or they dont. Don't waste my time.texasbbqbest Thanks this.
