So in other words you could enter one way for free and then leave over another route and catch a free crossing out, lessening the costs a little?
I don't have a hut sticker either. What's the chances of that being an issue if I get in and get right back out?

you're going to pay at least 1 toll to get in from NJ and then probably the Throggs Neck toll to get out if you come in from Outerbridge Crossing or the Goethals Bridge. If you come in on the GW you'll be stuck paying another toll to get onto Long Island and then a 3rd to get off of it.
spax Thanks this. -
Not exactly. You will have to pay some tolls no matter which way you get there. Some ways are just slightly less costly than others. As to HUT stickers. There are officers stationed at almost all the crossing bridges. Whether they catch you is like playing craps. Maybe they do and maybe they don't.
The real cost is your time. The traffic is terrible and it just takes a lot of time to get anywhere.
If this is just a one off trip, make sure you have adjusted the rate to account for the extra time and tolls. If going to be a regular run, then plan on the cost of the HUT sticker. -
I can only speak to using the GW/CrossBronx to the Throgs Neck. Having run JFK for 12 years, I can tell you that the best time to cross the GW is 0530....usually the overnight construction is picked up, but traffic is still fairly light. YMMV Also, on AM radio listen to either 880 or 1010. Both give fairly accurate traffic reports every 10 minutes 24 hours a day

Just think how much toll money is paid in NYC in a 24hr period! Wow!

Yeah. Would be nice if they actually used it to fix the roads instead of funding their huge bureaucracy.

Well thank you so much @buzzarddriver and all others who replied. I took all this into consideration for a fair quote. I doubt I'll be going since it seems the rate they are willing to pay amounts to about 2.50/mi and I pay tolls out of that. Thats not enough for me to deal with all that. I sure do appreciate the info though and it may come in handy in the future. Hopefully it'll help someone else out as well.

Now you won't hate yourself in the morning.

No don't do that it will take you forever....come in over the gwb...95 to 295 over the throgs neck onto the Clearview expressway....Take that down to i495 long island expressway east......take 495 to exit 44 which is rt 135 aka seaford oyster bay expressway and run that down to 27 west which will take you into Bellmore 2 towns over.....this may add some miles but I can promise you it will save a lot of time and fuel.....I live on long island and am a teamster in the tri state area....any questions give me a shoutspax Thanks this.
