I would greatly appreciate hearing from any O/O's and getting some help.
ok ill try....

My husband has been a driver for 4 1/2 years and is now thinking of becoming an O/O with him doing the driving and me (wife) doing the bookwork. He would like to buy a truck and lease it to a company in the Harrisburg, PA area or Greenville, SC area.
im with ya so far....

Problem is.......we don't have any idea how to go about doing this. O/O's that he has tried talking to don't seem too willing to share the "how-to's".

We have a lot of questions---
i'll bet you'll have alot more soon...

Are the requirements for becoming an O/O the same as for becoming a company driver (pass physical, age requirements, MVR/DAC, attend orientation, etc)? Would my husband have to provide this info or would the company he leased on with do it?
depends on the company and thier standerds...

Would myhusband have to take any runs they gve him or would he have at least some choice about it?
again depends on the company...

What criteria do companies use in hiring an O/O?
basicly do you own a truck, not have a bad driving record and have experiance hualin thier type of frieght

Are there any additional liceneses / tests required?
depends

Would the company get those, or my husand?
again it depends

Would he have to get anything from the state/county/etc in order to own his own truck and lease it out?
yes....he needs to incorporate...or LLC (my fav)
look up the secratary of states web site...it should have links to everything you NEED to do before hand...look for a link along the lines of "start your own business"...should be a sos.pa.gov type site

What are the main "danger signs" to look for when looking for a company to lease his truck to?
has he worked for them before?if so then he knows about what to expect
if not....its an open question as to what they are like...some are good, some are horrible

Anything anyone wants to add to our idea of becoming O/O would be helpful for us to make this decision.
ask away....this forum has an incredible wealth of knowledge to offer as there are many experianced (mostly currently struggling o/o's such as myself)

lew....in all honesty right now is a good time to buy a truck...just not a good time to OWN a truck
expences are sky high...profit is barely above CPM (not cents...COST PER MILE)
