Long story, I was recruited as Parts & Service Mgr by the origin owners back in the early 90's...got things straighten out...but the higher my sales were, the lower my bonus' got. Started my own business Ocean Truck & Eqpt Parts.
When the Japanese economy tanked, got bought out by the current owners
I miss diving & chalquilize soup. Little market down on Harmon strip. Nothin' better for a hangover! Palau, Yap, Bali. Ahhh. Dang. I gotta whip up some kelaguen & finadene!!!

U could try to get on with ups during their busy season coming up. They pay something lik 27 an hour/ ot after 8 hours. Then hope they take u on full time after the busy season. Ups feeder drivers can make 120k+ a year at the top of the board. Ull run nights for several years tho

I might just try this.
On another note, yesterday I was in Wisconsin doing a delivery to McLane Foodservice, and they had business cards at the shipping window saying "70k-100k yearly".
I then asked a driver walking by me how much he usually makes and he said about $1800 a week, and home just about every day, also saying some weeks when he has to work am extra day, he makes over $2000.
Then today, I saw a McLane truck delivering to a Pilot I was at, and asked him how much he makes and said anywhere from $1700 to $2300 a week depending on what route he's on that week. Also said he had only been working there a year. They flew him up from Temple, TX to Rochelle, IL for 2 weeks because they were short handed up there, and they put him in the Hilton to stay in, and $475 a week extra for food.
So, by then i was sold, and filled out my application earlier today...
I'll probably fill out about 20 more applications this upcoming weekend and see where i want to go from there.Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
McLane Company and Reinhart Foodservice both good.
As far as UPS, warehouse workers get first pick when a driving job comes open. When I lived in Nashville there was a 10 yr. minimum wait for a driving job.Pacific Islander Thanks this. -
Well, McClane called me back, told me they only have a "Shuttle Position" available in San Antonio that pays flat $205 a day, 5 days a week. No opportunity for overtime. Thats a pretty far cry from $70k to $100k a year their banner advertised. Told her I was only interested in the "Delivery Driver" position, and she said she had no opening, so I had to decline.
The good news is she told me I can relocate to other McLane regions, such as Wisconsin or Florida or NC, and then reapply. I might just do that, move to Florida
Now tome to fill out applications for ODU, R+L, and a few others LTL's and a few more food service delivery companies.
Will check Reinhart out with their pay. As for UPS, it's understandable I suppose since they are the top rated and paying LTL company. Think I'm just gonna apply everywhere and see who has positions available that i want then choose the best of the bunch.
I really would love to move to Florida though, so might do that and try to get hired from a company in Florida.Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
Making 70 to 80 grand/year as a highway driver might be pushing it...
It's possible, but not likely.
You'll run your balls off.
That kind of money often comes from local hourly work, where overtime pay comes into play. Overtime pay isn't really seen on highway work.
I live in Canada, and for instance LaFarge pays around $37/hour now as a base rate, with overtime, to company drivers. Saturday work is double time. I made $700 on just one easy Saturday shift. So yes, if you got into this segment of the industry, you could make $100,000/year as a company driver.
Over the road? Forget it. Unless you're an owner/op, it won't happen.
