I use 'Drive Axle', its a free app. I simply take a picture of the document(s), crop it, then email it! I've been using it for a year!

    Stormy 69 Thanks this.

@jackhartjr, thanks for that! It looks like a cool app that I haven't come across yet. Does it make the image look like a scan, or is it just a cropped picture?

I can crop it at each corner to where it looks like the original page. You have to center the phone camera about foot or so away, you get used to it. Another thing is to not move the camera for a couple of seconds after hitting the button to be sure the image isn't blurred!

Any portable scanner will have accompanying software to store, organize, and email docs/scans.

For a phone to work well it needs to have flash feature and variable focus, many don't. Without flash you have to be very particular about the lighting where you're taking the photograph.

Personally I don't unless I need to. I haven't had good luck with pictures from the phones I've tried, getting it to focus properly, with good lighting, no shadows, etc, proves more difficult than it is worth. Easier to use the scanner at a truck stop.

If I were doing my own thing I would have a scanner to connect to my laptop. Not too terribly expensive.

I use drive axle also, plus I have a scan, copy in the truck so I can print out contracts and such, sign them and scan them and send as a PDF

I've had no issues with the Drive Axle as far as lighting, may be my phone, it's a Motorola moto X. I always do it from the drivers seat before I leave the customer!

I used Cam Scanner premium. Sharpens, adjusts contrast, converts to pdf, doc and jpg. Worked well even with narrow pipes. I recommend.
